Monarch's are on the move

I have three beautiful Monarch's feeding and laying eggs this lovely morning. Weekend before last I spotted five Monarch's in my small yard, terribly hungry as they fed for what seemed like hours. Butterfly Bush, Lantana and tropical MW blooms are the favorites in my garden. I've seen more Monarch's this year than any year since I've begun gardening for them. I hope this means everyone's efforts to grow Milkweed ARE helping. Yea for home gardeners.

My Monarch cats are big and fat and it looks like I'll have some more eggs to raise. Next year I'll plant even more tropical milkweed, not only for food but for late season blooms. I'm now feeding the leaves of Common to my cats, as they are big and can easily handle the larger leaves. Thank goodness I have good quality Common Milkweed this late in the year so I can leave the tropical that is blooming to be used for nectar. I safety pin the common MW leaves to a ribbon and string it in the cage. They love feeding on the hanging leaves.
