How to remove dining room chair seats
Comments (10)We intend to do the work ourselves. However, my wife has talked with an upholsterer to ask whether dining chair seats are usually glued, as well as screwed on. He says that they are not usually glued, and has offered to look at the chair to see whether the seat can be removed by tapping it with a mallet, now that the screws have been removed. We've only tried one chair at this point. It may be that the other seats will come out just fine....See MoreHave you eliminated your formal dining room?
Comments (47)Oh, gosh, the pics of all your former-dining-rooms-turned libraries are wonderful! I, too, think that it's a great idea . . . if you're not using your present dining room. Repurposing space to fit your needs is so darn practical. For us, though, it wouldn't work. We eat every dinner in our dining room and our weekend breakfasts, too. And, I ENJOY having sit-down dinners with friends and family. Most are fairly casual, but I enjoy sitting around the table for a good couple of hours, chatting and enjoying food, friends and family. I'm not Italian or Spanish, but I do admire their dedication to that time you spend eating and enjoying the company of each other . . . and we're not overweight or over-eating because of it, either ;^D. We just had a big taco party here the other night and I loved having so many people laughing and talking around my table. We have a kitchen peninsula with very comfy stools, but I prefer looking at my family while we eat . . . instead of the tv or the kitchen cabs (LOL!), so we limit it to occasional quick lunches or snacks. But, getting back to dining-rooms-turned-libraries, I agree that if you're not into entertaining around a dinner table or you have a table in your kitchen for family dinners, this sounds like the ideal solution. Now I'm off to see Justgotabme's slide show! Lynn...See MoreNeed direction on how to recover these dining room chairs
Comments (7)Webbing over the opening, woven with about 1" between the weave, horizontally and vertically, covered with upholstery foam cut to fit, then wrapped with batting and then fabric. Leaving the seating base open, supported by woven webbing, precludes the potential 'whoopee cushion' effect when guests sit (or so my upholstery instructor stated 30 years ago.) It's pretty easy to do with a staple gun - did 10 of them in a day a couple of months ago. Just staple one side of the webbing, then pull down tight against the opposite side of the seat and staple the opposing side of the webbing and then cut to size - no special tools required for slip seat dining chairs other than a staple gun and pair of scissors, they're the easiest upholstered piece to reupholster. Go for it - you'll love the results!...See MoreShow me your "pull up/move around" living room side chairs, please!
Comments (22)We have a chair in the corner of the living room that only gets used very occasionally, so I didn't want to spent a lot, and I wanted something kind of fun. I ended up finding this chair at Target for, I think, $59.99. The fabric has the exact right colors for our living room. We have a couple of ottomans that can be used in a pinch, too....See Morecyn427 (z. 7, N. VA)
