White Macabus. How did you handle the 90 degree corners?
Comments (5)2 options for managing a linear grain in a corner. 1. butt joint. relatively conspicious but much preferred over having one countertop with grain parallel to wall and another with grain perpendicular to wall. sometimes the grain transition is masked by an appliance garage. 2. 45 degree joint - possible particularly if bookmatched slabs are available. uses several more sq. ft. of stone but can look really nice under optimum circumstances. sometimes it results in an additional seam depending on lenght of runs....See MoreWhich Granite (Quartzite) Slab for Kitchen Island?
Comments (16)Sanjuangirl-unless your fab will give me the quartzite at his exact cost, I doubt I'd be able to make it work. Issue is I have to have 2 slabs, but i'm only actually using about 1/4 of the 2nd. I contacted Stone Age who ONLY charges for square footage USED, but you have to use their stone they have on hand. They won't be getting more Fusion in for 4-6 weeks and I cannot be guaranteed that it will be as light as the stuff at Bedrosians. I BEGGED them to source the slabs and let me do per square foot, but they have to have the whole lot to do it. I TIRED!LOL. Good news is I'll get my counters AND fireplace done for UNDER budget....See Moresuper white quartzite irl--omg!!!!!!!!!

His original post was about looking for super white quartzite and not agreeing that it was even a quartzite, its more similar to marble. He explains the tests you need to do in the first post and I think he has like 6 or 7 threads going. I just tested out our sample of super white "quartzite"... We put red wine, ketch-up, red wine vinegar, lemon juice, and a slide of lemon. We left everything for about 5 minutes and wiped it off and saw very very very faint etching, you could only see it on one extreme angle. We left everything overnight and there were no stains, only etching. The worst etching was from the actual slice of lemon and you could see a faint out line. We also noticed that the grey parts didn't etch as much as the lighter areas, no clue why. We did the glass test and it easily scratched a glass bottle. I've been agonizing over this for a few days and would highly suggest getting a sample from the yard and doing your own experiment with what you would cook with. Only thing left for me to try is heat....See MoreWhite Quartzite is in (photos)! need help w/ backsplash
Comments (40)jdknyc, this may be too late to help you, but I'll post it anyway in case you are still looking or someone else wants a darker BS to use with white quartzite. My designer recently recommended Nine Lives from the Crossville Color by Numbers collection. It is a medium-dark gray with bluish tones, and the sample we have really worked with the dark vein colors in the slabs we held it up to. I am not sure if we will use it since I pictured a lighter BS next to our walnut uppers. I think the Nine Lives would look great with your white cabinets and white quartzite. It costs under $4 sq ft (at least with my designer's discount). Here is a link that might be useful: 9 Lives...See Moresheloveslayouts
