Do you have a favorite Junk Do-Dad ?
Comments (6)Ya mean my fav Junk Do-Dads besides glass for totems and flowers? LOL I especially like funky style things that are handmade. Must take a pic of one of my latest treasures to show. The day I found a large coffee can full of chandy crystals for only $2. was a memorable day! No one but a dedicated YS/crafter/junker could understand that thrill. Other than that my list IS a mile long. I like anything that could be described as architectural, bling, antique, vintage, concrete, rock, or repurposed. Does that cover pretty much any ol' thing I might find cheap at a yard sale? Or sometimes not so cheap at a thrift or antique shop? I've also recently found a little old table for $2 and a very junky bench for $1.50 for my garden or garden house. They need help and I probably overpaid even at those low prices. My DH just shakes his head when I buy things like this. He thinks they're trash and he may be right. But I like them and know they can be reno'd....See MoreDo you have favorite dishes - as in plates & bowls?
Comments (51)Not long ago, I was at Old Time Pottery and got two very heavy high gloss square plates. They are big and different looking, I use them on our very square small table just for the two of us. They never bounce around in the dish washer either. Food looks so pretty on them. But when Linens & Things was clearing the shelves, I bought 2 plates of every color in their earthenware line, along with some all colored quilted place mats. With gold chargers and white salad plates sitting in them, they make the round traditional table in DH's cape dining room really cheerful. Those plates are heavy too. For DH, I have been collecting pieces of his mama's china, a bone color with a simple gold band, and that is used for family dinners at his house. Dishes are fun, and not a serious issue, but a chance to add color to a very white/black kitchen. I have a lot of Pfalzgraff Naturewood, but am gradually giving it to my DIL who still likes it. So many dishes, so little time!...See MoreCan you put a coffee mug down on your walnut countertop?
Comments (12)I had a walnut island top in my last house. We put coffee mugs down on it all the time. Yes, after a while there were small scratches, but that's a wood countertop. Once every few months or so I'd clean it off and reapply oil and it was good as new. The only thing that caused a ring for me was a sweaty glass of Coke that someone left overnight. I thought we'd oiled it enough to prevent water rings, but it did leave one. After that I sanded it down, reapplied several more coats of oil, and we never had any more problems. If you have wood counters, you have: -A beautiful counterop -A countertop that will get scratches -A countertop that can be revitalized very easily I love walnut!!...See MoreCoffee Cups/Mugs - what do you do?
Comments (35)I couldn't believe how easily coffee stains disappeared when I put a little baking soda in the mug, added just a few drops of water to make a paste and give a wipe. It's gone! Not bleached, but gone. And it's just a wipe. No elbow grease wasted, no big expense for special scrubbers, tablets or otherwise. But if they're really scratched up I'd be careful and consider replacement especially if they're deep scratches. I understand how it is to have favorite mugs. Some just hold the right amount, hold the temp well and have the handle that fits the hand well so maintaining the "good" mugs is important....See More- 11 years ago
