Old dishes & bowls have any value?
Comments (19)Check your library or book store on collectable dishes. Also check Antique Road show ==they might have something similiar. It seems to me people are not buying dishes much now. I have some cups and saucers that are over 200 years old and cannot sell them....See MoreDo you have a favorite mixing bowl set?
Comments (48)Much depends on what I'm doing. Most of the time I like the Pyrex clear glass ones. I like to be able to see from the outside if things are mixed. Plus the shape is great for mixing, even using a mixer and they're deep enough without being too deep. I even bought a larger one for making angel food cake since the others weren't big enough. There too, it's great for things like slaw and salads to see that it's mixed well. I like to be able to see! I had a plastic handle one similar to the one in the link only more conventional shape and used a lot for stuff that would pour. Don't use it much now though. I just bought an Anchor Hocking covered measuring thing from Aldi before Christmas when they had them reasonably priced and I used it to make banana bread. Worked great. I really liked the handle to keep a grip while stirring. I guess I'm not too fussy, I'll usually grab what I can get my hands on, though I do have preferences....See MoreWhere do you store your everyday plates, bowls & cups?
Comments (54)Dreamingnh, thanks for the additional website! Amazingly the inset drawers seem to look nice in both the recessed look or the slab look. I am also glad I started this thread since I think it is helping all of us and I love seeing what everyone is doing to make their lives easier. 3mutts. Thank you for letting me know that you have so many drawers and went with the slab drawer for ease of cleaning and the clean flush look. Bmorepanic, that sounds very convenient your layout of the shelves and the recessed wall for the glasses and mugs so are easy to reach for and to put away. circuspeanut, thanks for letting me know that you have your cabinets at 16" and you love it to reach everything. An installer was here for an estimate and I told him I wanted the cabinets lower and he said I could do it but first find out how much extra crown molding I would need and what the cost would be if I still wish for the cabinets to reach the ceiling. I am definitely going to look into this since I would love for the cabinets to be lower. I have a tall blender but I can just place the blender on the open counter that has no cabinets over it since it is open to the family room with a half of a wall in between (so far three cabinet guys want to know if I want to extend the granite counter there to put stools there but it will lessen my walk way so I prefer not to and not to increase my granite costs). Thanks for letting me know there is not code regulation for the height of cabinets over a counter and not over a range....See MoreDo you have a favorite potluck dish?
Comments (30)This is always a hit whenever I make it, wherever I take it. I don't use homemade mayo and have never seen creole mustard, so I use commercial mayo and dijon mustard. One error I made once was trying to make the dressing in the food processor and added the cilantro...it was a beautiful pale green, but not appetizing for an egg and potato salad...Emeril's Roasted Garlic and Potato Salad w/Cilantro Edited to add details that were confusing: When the recipe calls for new potatoes, I believe they mean small whole potatoes, really small. I don't ever find them that small so I buy either smallish red potatoes or waxy white (small as possible) ones. If they are about the size of a small egg, I usually cut them in half, or if they are bigger, I quarter them so they are about the size of a ? mushroom maybe? They only roast for 15 min, (you want them fork tender but still firm so they don't mush when you stir - they really are roasted potatoes) so that gives you a clue as to how small they should be. I like the pieces big bite sized with a bit of browning on them. Regular potatoes, like bakers would not work in this recipe. The garlic is left in whole cloves. I use many more than the recipe calls for. They mellow completely so it is NOT an overly garlicky recipe. For a purchased item, the biggest hit I ever had, store bought, was Trader Joe's Lemon Bars. They are in the frozen food and are the best lemon bars I've ever had, bar none (pun intended)! Everyone asks for the recipe....See Morecannes
