Need help with my escallonia cuttings, please

I decided I wanted an escallonia hedge, so I took 50 cuttings from my very large shrub. All of them rooted in my amazingly successful, very simple mist propagating tent. They each had a healthy root bunch, about 1 1/2 inches around. So I potted up the first 30 into one gallon pots with sunshine mix #4 and about a tsp. of osmocote in each pot. I put them on my shady porch out of direct sunlight, and watched them all wither away and die over the past month! There's masses of info on here about how to get cuttings to root successfully, but not so much about what to do after you've got roots. Did I do something wrong?

Other cuttings (kerria, snowflake viburnum, weigelia, clematis montana) are all fine and were treated exactly the same way. I've got 20 escallonia cuttings still waiting to be potted up, and if anyone has some suggestion as to how to keep these babies going I'd be very grateful. Do escallonia need a special soil mix?
