Is it real Grace I&WS? If it is exposed to strong sunlight under a metal roof it will get much hoy year than the air temperature so it should be the high temperature version. If at high altitude it should be Grace Ultra.

We are in Richmond Virginia (for altitude purposes) but I'm not following the part where you mention metal roof. Sorry, I'm not construction minded!

Wait it out and clean off the drips if cosmetically unacceptable.

Thanks for the help. I guess I wasn't clear. This is the room to my screened in porch and its dripping on my stuff. I have been wiping it off the roof and it seems with each passing day there is less drip. It sounds like it should be dripping less as we move forward?

If that's a finished exposed interior surface with no sheathing and a roof membrane attached directly to the ourside of it and bridging gaps between boards, then someone did things very wrong.

Looks like they used treated boards, my house has boards and doesnt have a problem. More common in old construction. Its as good as 3/4 sheathing or better. Possibly the gaps between the boards and the ice shield dont agree, something I might have to look at if I do an ice shield in the future. Maybe a thin layer of sheathing over the boards.

I dont think he has a major problem here, this is a screened in porch, which is for the most part outside. The ice shield is dripping on his porch in a few spots. I still dont think this will be a continuing problem, at some point it should stop. I guess if it doesnt it needs to be reroofed with sheathing in that area.

It actually looks like radius edge deck boards if you look close. Very puzzling for sure.

I didn't catch that it was dripping on stuff in his screened in porch. If it's a screened in porch and always exposed ot the elements (i.e. not heated) then ice and water shield isn't needed in the first place. If the roof deck is exposed to ambient temperature on both sides, ice dams shouldn't form at all. If there are no ice dams you don't need the underlayment.

I would be easier to put sheathing on the inside as opposed to reroofing with sheathing. I agree that it should stop but I'm sure it's a PITA worrying about staining from the drips. Covers under the drip areas is what I would suggest. It's only likely to drio when it gets really hot out.

it really depends on the installation. If the roofer literally peeled the backing sheet off of the Ice and Water shield and stuck it down to the roof deck (deck boards with joints as opposed to continuous sheathing) then yes, I think there is a potential for the asphalt to flow through the board joints whenever it gets hot enough to melt it. With time it may slow down due to exposure but the good I&W shield material is designed to flow and seal against penentrations to prevent water from getting through the membrane. I would not expect it to be a contant drip like a water leak, but I suspect the potential for it to ooze through the joints (as shown in your photos) and maybe cause an occassional drip in really hot weather would be there for a long time.

I'd like to see additional close-ups and wide-angles of the whole roof/ceiling structure, interior and exterior, especially the wall intersections. :-)
