Name That Rose!

Please! What kind of rose?

I have been unable to post pictures for a long time, and now, thank you Houzz, am able to. I have long wanted to know what kind of rose I have in my garden. It's been here since I moved in 25 years ago, and to my complete and utter dismay, was decimated by last year's winter weather. I have attached a few pictures. At its best, it was 6 feet high. I doubt this rose is still available for purchase, but before it's completely gone, I'd love to thank it properly, by name. I call it my 'ketchup' rose because, in all seriousness, it smells like ketchup! Thank you so much.

Did you post this on the Antique Rose Forum? It seems to have a lot more success in identifying roses. is the color correct?

The landscape "Meidiland" roses like for example Scarlet Meidiland, Red Meidiland, Alba Meidiland, Apricot Meidiland etc are kind of made for that type of application. Does Rosa virginiana produce hips worth using? Oh, and the York Rose, Rosa x alba semi-plena produces hips that could be used. Its white is tinged with peach-pink, so it looks more milky white than pure white, but it's lovely in bloom! Some people don't care for the colors of Rosa rugosa's later flowers against the color of the ripening hips. If you're sensitive to such things you'll have to consider whether you like the idea of scarlet/tomato red hips adorned with lavender-pink roses. If the idea of that color pair bothers you, go with Rosa rugosa alba. Then you'll have scarlet against pure white.

It looks like a rambler. Does it bloom only once in June-July? If you remove a leaf and look at the plate at the base of the stem, is there fringe on the sides of it? Most ramblers root easily from cuttings, if you want one of your own.

I'm trying to figure out what ketchup smells like because it is not a choice on Help Me Find! Instead of typing the whole thing, I have had success with just copying then pasting the whole post.

Hmmmm, if you've never had ketchup, that's a good question. Spicy is the best way I could describe the rose.

Maybe something like ELECTRON? HMF says it has an old rose, spicy fragrance.

It's not that lush, and can get to 6 feet. I have to do a petal count on mine.

Old rose, spicy fragrance sounds close, though.
