Rose newbie -- what kind do I want for my slope?

I'm an experienced gardener, but no experience whatsoever designing with roses. I am reworking mixed plantings in my front "yard" which is a rocky steep slope from front door stoop down to the street. Faces East, sandy loam, good air circulation. Surrounding plants include groundcover junipers, cotoneaster, herbaceous groundcovers, and perennials to come. I am picturing a rose of some kind, but not an upright shrub (that would stick out too much from the steep slope). Rather, either a low, spreading mound, or long canes spreading out in several directions from the central plant.

Are there kinds of roses that will do this? Horticultural and/or design suggestions are welcome! Please give me some ideas where to begin.

Another thing, I would love red hips for fall, color of blooms either in pale yellow, white, or definite red (pinks no good for me here).

Thanks.
