I'd get high-end sling. So comfortable, easy to clean, stackable, easy to lift, dries quickly, and the high-end stuff is made well. Winston, Telescope...I once had a used set of Winston sling furniture I bought on CL. It was awesome.

We have wrought iron. Has worn great and I have the tufted type cushions that I do not leave out (although they are sunbrella fabric), but put in our deck box when not in use. Our patio furniture is dark green. The only thing is, not so sure how easy for you to move. I've never actually moved it myself.

I just lost my reply when trying to submit, so short version -- we had slings for at least 4-5 years in Texas heat and Gulf Coast humidity, drought and heavy rain years. I wouldn't have anything else. Unless you have slings, anything without a cushion is most likely going to need a cushion, pad or cover and those will get yucky and mildewed in this climate -- quickly and without a doubt. The slings dry and I don't have to remember to remove them, cover them, clean them or store them. They are comfortable and I like the way they look (clean and simple). And wouldn't you be replacing cushions in 4-5, maybe 6-7 years or so?

My chaises were still good and would have given me another summer or two even with two large dogs laying on them all the time -- it was my table and chair frames that wound up pushing replacement. You can buy ready made or custom made sling replacements or the fabric and make them yourself. I would have done them myself it if hadn't been for other factors.

Thank you all! Is there a brand of sling that is good but not too expensive? I can't do $500 or more a chaise. I would like less if possible. Are there any that are decent under $500? At the moment I'm landscaping/dirt fill, new sod, bordering and landscape lighting. I just finished remodeling the pool and bought two patio tables two benches, eight chairs and a rug...this is sucking me dry I tell ya.

The ones I have don't appear to be available any more, but I foundthis one at Home Depot with a grey sling for under $200 with a 3 yr warranty and the comments that the frame should last more than 10 years. Perhaps at that price and with the warranty, they'd be worth taking a chance on.

Okay here's where I'm at. I wasn't thinking about sling until you brought up some good points. Now I have a horrible amount of research to get the best bang for my little buck. So far it seems that ordering online at a commercial outdoor furniture business is best as far as price, quality and warranty. Depending on what I pick the warranty is anywhere from 10 to 15 yrs on the frame but the sling is dependent on the grade. The good thing though is that I can pick my frame and sling colors. Prices on the styles I'm looking at range from $187 to $277 each. Now I just have to weed through the commercial brands.

Mag, so far I'm leaning towards Alumatech but with vinyl criss cross straps, the reason for that is that the straps have a much longer warranty at 7 yrs, the frames have a15 yr warranty and the finish 7yr. There is one style that is raised up higher to make it easier to get off and has one arm that would be perfect for us. There is also many frame and strap color choices. $184 each. I'm sure if I look some more I could get something even nicer for a tic of a higher price and maybe three middle supports instead of two and perhaps a thicker tube. However, I think that would be overkill for us and really I just want something to last five or six years because I will most likely be sick of it by then. I'm thinking if it is not cozy enough with the criss cross straps I could buy heavy thick cotton bath floor towel/mats to lay on and just keep them rolled up somewhere for easy storage and washing.

Vinyl straps are hot and uncomfortable, and they are very hard to clean. Dirt gets under the straps, and you have to lift each strap to clean underneath them. I did it once ,and it was really a PITA.

Oh grrr never thought of that. So, back to looking because the above brand only has a one yr warranty on slings.

Stores will likely be reducing inventory at the end of the summer. Online should give good value, but I would look around and see if you might get a great buy. You will know quickly if it is great buy or slim picking.

Yes, when it comes to sling, you want to really do your homework. Sling is either the absolute best choice or among the worst. The cheap stuff is really bad, but the well-made stuff is great and worth the extra cost.

So anyway...Now I have read enough and as usual am over thinking and analyzing a purchase. Did you ever learn just enough to make it even harder on yourself? For example: I didn't know till today that there were raised seat height options and think that would be a nice thing. Also, while most are around 27" wide I didn't know I could get a perfect width of 30.5" so my arms could be nice and cozy but with plenty of wiggle room at my side. However, I still haven't found exactly the right thing. Why do most companies only have a one year warranty on the sling? Even the more expensive ones. What's up with that? I may still go with the Alumitech but in a sling with the extended height and wider bed. The warranty is great on everything but the sling but the price is very low. Hmmm

Thank you Tibbrix! I think what I need to do is to go to a store that has some commercial loungers and try them out. I have over the years in different hotels and resorts laid on strap and slings types with good and bad in both comfort wise. The cozy ones I just took for granted and wish I would have paid more attention. While I do not want more cleaning work I do own a pressure washer so maybe that could help with the strap type. The thing is that my tail bone was broken twice as a child and my comfort spot is in finding a little gap. However, the sling would be ideal for less maintenance if I can find the right one.

Ok, I have cheap sling, Target 50% off cheap sling, 4 loungers with metal frame. What I love: I could care less if my kid, or any kid spills drinks or sunscreen all over said chairs. If one of my dogs, dogs it, big deal. If I leave it out in the rain, oh well. They stack, I mean really stack well. And lastly they were only $40 each. Side note they held weight well but I've only had them 1/2 season so far.

Houseofsticks, there is something to be said for some of the inexpensive stuff and that is you can get new stuff every two years and not feel bad about it. I had $35 slings in my last house and they were good for almost two years left out in the elements. After that they couldn't be trusted to hold more than maybe a hundred pounds "if". The end legs rusted away. Strangely the sling part was okay but not comfortable on the tail bone. I'm at at the point in my DIY life that when my project is finally completed I want to sit back and enjoy it for several years before replacement starts all over again. Not that I can go crazy on something grossly expensive but my goal is to get something reasonable that will still look good and function well for five or six years or more.

justerrilynn, it sounds to me like, for yourself, it might be smart to keep some kind of pad nearby that you can put under your knees, when lounging, in order to raise your hips and take pressure off your tailbone.

Get something like this and have it covered in Sunbrella fabric.

we have nice sling chairs (and had a couple of chaises)- don't remember the brand, but from a nice outdoor furniture store, so pricier than HD, lowes, etc... have had the chairs for about 12 yrs. the chaises didn't last as long- maybe 7-8 yrs... the chairs are still going strong, tho they have all gotten some shade every day. they all very sturdy and can easily hold larger people still.

the biggest problem we've had with the sling furniture is that they are lightwt enough that they can blow around in a strong wind- I have had to touch up the paint on some of the frames and have had a little bit of rusting in the areas where the paint was damaged. the chaises were in the full hot sun all late spring, summer and fall- brought in for winter- and they were down by the pool, so they rattled around more... the chaise slings definitely got rougher in the constant full sun over the years, so were less comfortable after maybe 4 seasons... always laid a towel on them the last couple of yrs before sitting. the chairs are really almost as smooth as when we got them- the chair slings are a different color and 'weave' as compared to the chaises that were by the pool, so I would look for a very smooth sling....

replaced the chaises with a couple from HD a couple of yrs ago and they are still in good shape and sturdy, tho there are a few small areas of rust on the frames...

Yes. In windy weather, you want to lower the backs of sling chairs so that they're flat and don't get blown around. I do that with mine, and I stack my two sling chairs. That does the trick.

I think I'm going to get lucky on some craigslist supposed top of the line Trapitone sling loungers. Still waiting to hear back. They are two years old and in one of the pictures it shows them with fitted lounge chair covers that she used when not in use. So, they look well cared for. There are two other CL listings as well for sling loungers but with one they didn't know the brand so I'll scratch that one. I decided to give CL a shot when I learned that husband was planning to buy a cheap nasty bbq grill so I had to quickly order my pick of the Weber EP 330...which, lowered my immediate chair buying dollars. Don't want to wait any longer so there's always a way...

I don't know where in Florida you are but if you're close to St. Pete there is a place there that buys furniture from resorts when they redecorate and sells at a huge savings.

Just searched and they had a bunch of tropitone chaises a few days ago.
