It looks like some kind of calathea. I have one and the tips on some of the leaves turned brown. It has to do with watering and humidity. The leaves of this plant will also fold up and down.

In almost all cases, necrotic leaf tips and margins are a symptom of the plant's ability to move enough water to the plants extremities to keep the tissue hydrated. What isn't hydrated dies back to the point where the tissue IS hydrated. Unless the plant is wilted in the evening & perks right back up and remains turgid after you water, the cause isn't under-watering. In a very high % of cases (like nearly all) the cause is either over-watering or a high level of dissolved solids (salts) in the soil. Both of these causes are severely exacerbated by poor, water-retentive soils. That said, the best remedy is to make sure your plant is in a soil you can water correctly w/o the need to worry that what is happening will happen. More on that of you're interested in chasing that idea a bit.

Also, if after you water the plant is sitting in the effluent that exits the drain hold, it's being limited by that practice in several ways. Ideally, there is no pathway for the effluent to follow so it can make its way back into the soil. All the salts that are flushed out when you water remain in the collection saucer (unless you empty it), and the level of salt in the saucer very quickly equalizes with the level of salt in the soil solution (isotonicity), so you should block the pot up so it sits above the effluent, ensuring the effluent, once out of the soil, can never find its way back in.That, plus the fact that soil in a pot sitting in its own waste water remains saturated much longer than a pot divorced from the effluent.
