LOL Jodie, yes you probably overdid it with 6 vines in a pot, I usually plant 6 on the whole trellis. The flowers are a little small, but once they get going they look more floriferous. They would probably do better in full sun, but mine grow in partial sun, don't have much choice in that matter except for tree removal. This pic is from last year, but as I said this trellis blew over, and I've been working on a much bigger trellis behind this one (hoping to screen out the background and neighbors shed). Just planted out my Cardinal Climber and Morning glories yesterday. They were very ready to be freed from their containers!

Hyacinth Bean is supposed to grow well here in MI z5, gets quite large. It is an annual. Our local Garden Column writer had an article on it a while ago, as a suggestion for next summer. I think the flowers are pink. Moonflower might be a night-blooming vine to think about. Looks like white Morning Glory. Scent is very attractive for some folks. Also an annual. You might try starting some things from seed, get a head start. I always bought my Cardinal plants, so they got bloom time, were growing well before the end of summer. Clematis is a great vine, comes in many colors and various flower shapes. It is a perennial, so it can take a couple years to really get going well. However the flower reward is worth it, in my opinion. There are 3 bloom periods, which the different named plants can use. Some are early season, others mid-season, while others bloom in late summer, early fall. Just check the labels, so you know which time to expect bloom, when to trim the vines back. Lots of good information on the Clematis forum here on GW. I have had great luck with the clematis plants with Polish names, Pope John Paul II, and a purple one, can't remember it. Terrific bloom over long time period, starting the first year. I was pretty surprised at that. Has just gotten even better since!

Hi, It is probably too early for blooms in your location;mine bloom in July. Suggest you use these guidelines: "Plants like a lot of water and nutrients. While they like lots of water, they do not like wet soil. Keep soil moist, not wet. Add fertilizer when planting and every month during the season. Use a high phosphorous formula just before the first blooming period." Phosphorous is the second number in the listing:10-20-10.However,you don't really want or need the first number (nitrogen),so look for formulas like this: 0-8-4 " Prefers slightly alkaline to very acid soils. WATER: Cypress Vine does not like to dry out. Water frequently if there is not enough natural moisture. " "Liming is the usual way to correct extreme acidity, or to make the soil "sweeter." The safest material to use for this is ground-up limestone rock, called agricultural lime. However, hydrated lime can be used. On a light soil, 50 pounds of ground limestone per 1,000 square feet should raise the pH about one unit, as from 5 to 6, but 75 to 100 pounds might be needed on a heavier soil for the same effect. It is best to take a pH test in order to determine whether liming is needed or not." OR,you can just wait for the flowers to come in July ;) Good luck.

Hi, Jasmina should go from that size to about 4 feet tall in one season. You will have a good size climber in the second year. When you plant be sure to amend the soil with a good amount of compost and put some additional slow release fertilizer in the soil you use to fill in the whole. Don't let more than 2 canes grow up until after the first year - clip off any new canes to encourage all of the growth into the 2 canes. I would also recommend that you mulch the rose and be sure that the moisture level is good all summer. next year let another one or two canes grown from the soil level. I have 3 year old Jasmina own root roses that are a very nice size. Jasmina blooms on new wood so you should see blooms this year. It does make a very nice own root climber - strong and eventually as good of size as a a budded rose. Also it should be quite cold hardy in your zone. Please let Edmund's know how you feel. I noticed that this year they did not always make clear what they were shipping -bare root or a potted young rose plant. This is a photo taken this spring of a 2 year old Jasmina (it will be 3 years old in about 2 months) on a 4.5' tall fence. I planted it from a pot smaller than you just received.
