Thought this would be fun! Post your dream or fave kitchen
Comments (52)Wow! So many great and inspirational kitchens. Loved clicking through to some of these websites, many of which I had never seen before. Martha, I swear we were separated at birth. That kitchen you posted is one of my all time favs. Here are two of my favourite inspiration pix (the "u" is for you, Poppy :-) You can see where we got some ideas for our vaulted ceiling and the use of colour: And thks so much for sharing your enthusiasm for our kitchen - it is getting a good workout! Just tried my hand at no knead bread - flour everywhere but well worth it. Here's a recent pic with a bunch of spring pussy willows and dogwood branches on the island. It's been fun catching up with you dear GWer's...:-) Eliz...See MoreYour Dream Kitchen?
Comments (21)Well, as far as appliances go in my little condo's dream kitchen---I needed and wanted the quietest dishwasher I could afford, which is a Bosch with I think a 46 decibel rating. My kitchen is open on both ends to the living room and I did not want to have to turn the TV up to drown out the sound of the DW. This one is so quiet that I have to put my ear up to it almost, to hear if it's running. And since it's just me, I wanted a 24" wide (but tall) fridge, because that's all I really need and it seemed silly to use up valuable storage space for a bigger fridge. I got an LG that is now discontinued but they might have a new model by now. I LOVE it. It's perfect for me. I have tons of storage and I have one long wall with no uppers, a look that I've been hankering for for 10-15 years! And lastly, I've always dreamed of having a dark gray/black slate floor and I got it. Whee!...See Morebig kitchen advice need your thoughts on a 22.5ft run of counter
Comments (49)It appears that you only have one wall for your kitchen as the islands, due to your constraints (we all have them), can not be usefully incorporated into the kitchen That window wall then must have the fridge on it instead of across the kitchen. You use the fridge a whole heck of a lot more than your ovens. When you bake something it stays in the oven for anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hours. A fridge you are in and out, in and out, in and out. Walking across that kitchen to the fridge will get old fast. Put the fridge where you currently plan on putting the ovens. Put the ovens and the pull-out broom closet in the area where you plan on putting the fridge. You now have the ovens and pantry near one another. If you do a lot of baking, put a prep sink and trash pull-out at this end of the island by the range and this area becomes your baking center.. The broom closet does not need to be taking up valuable working triangle space. Your prep area will probably be between your fridge and sink. Left center your sink on that wall with the DW to the left of it, close to the dinette area for clean-up....See MoreHome Depot,, Can you get your dream kitchen though them?
Comments (25)Hello again Peggy, Just my two cents here - Because of budget we are DIY'rs. We ended up going with Lowes on their cabinets because we liked the designer so much. We had been to others at the big box stores and were not impressed, but then we ran into some guy that had been doing it for 5 or 6 years in there kitchen dept and loved his job. He listened to what we were trying to achieve and spent oddles of time with us trying to make things work based on what I was trying to accomplish inside my cabinet doors and my space in addition to getting the "look". Had it not been for him we probably would of ended up looking into custom - we are having to manipulate and piecing things together to achieve the look we want which has required alot of patience and frustration along the way. Maybe this is normal with DIY...there were certain elements that I wanted within the cabintry that couldn't be done (feet on my island, panels on the sides of cabinets we built up to look like furniture, roll out trays on our island that they didn't carry for that piece, etc.,) Looking hindsight I would have checked into custom, I've heard it here before as igloochick mentioned that alot of times it can be cheaper! Another problem we ran into is after we ordered and installed our cabinets we went back to add crown molding (we waited on this because at the start of our renovation we bumped our wall out 2' and it gave a slanted ceiling, we wanted to install our cabinets first to see what we would need for pieces with the crown molding - in the meantime our designer from Lowes moved and we had to begin dealing with someone else in that dept which has been a nightmare - that is a story in itself - Kraftmaid says we have to deal with Lowes and go through them for our needs. I'm sure this wouldn't happen often but it is possible - our original designer has tried to help us long distance but Lowes does not want him to handle it out of state since our take backs and pick ups are here....with all that said I wish I would have checked into custom since I knew what I wanted - BUT I am happy with the way things are looking, just thinking the frustration and aggravation wouldn't be as it is AND it could have costed less. BTW, I answered you on my post (I too had a hard time finding my post??!!) Just in case you don't get there - Thank you for all your support! I would love to see pics and hear progress! Keep in touch Jen...See MoreNothing Left to Say
