Foundation: Should I water between the porch and the slab?

(Sorry if this is not the right place to post this)

Our house is 20 years old, in Texas. We have had some really dry summers the last few years, and the soil (clay) has shifted some. It caused some minor cracks on the inside walls. Two door frames have also started leaning, and the doors are difficult to close.

I had a foundation company come and gave me a quote to add foundation support. I can't afford that fix. And the soil is still going to shift. When we had huge rains this spring, all the cracks closed.

I have been watering the grass, to help keep the soil somewhat moist. But there is a concrete porch on that part of the house, detached from the foundation slab. It's about 5-6 ft wide, so the watering doesn't really get to the soil under the foundation there. There used to be wood planks (to frame porch concrete when it was poured - I guess) between the porch and the slab, that has mostly rotted over the years. It's a ~1" gap.

I was wondering if I should water (or maybe have drip hose) between the porch and the foundation?
