Comments (35)pjb, Sometimes you cannot avoid them though. I know someone who was turning on his faucet and got bit. Someone I used to work with was doing laundry inside her home and reached down to get some clothes and got bit, they figure it came through the dog door. I went to turn the lights off in my garage one evening and turned the corner in my hallway and there was one (I didn't get bit). Several species of rattlesnake will give you the chance to retreat but some like the Mojave green are just plain nasty. In the 20 years we've lived here I have dispatched more rattlers than I care to think about. My 4yr old g-son was less than 1/2 ft from one. Luckily it was injesting and couldn't strike. DH was weeding one winter and touched the back of one- thank God it was lethargic from the cold. I went to get a sweater one night (7/4) from DH's truck- stepped down and heard a rattle. I had to wait in the dark until it rattled again and then I jumped the other way. That was a 3' diamondback- it was less than a foot away. BTW, that 2 year old I posted about last month. The child is Dr. Sean Bush's little boy. Dr Bush who lives about 1/2 mile from us is the ponytail venom doctor from the TV channel Animal Planet's "Venom ER" show. Jude saw the snake in their backyard and tried to pick it up. Dr Bush keeps snakes, spiders, scorpians etc in his garage (well contained) and Jude thinking this was one of his daddy's snakes that got loose wanted to help. If you ever got bit Dr Bush is the man you want to take care of you. In fact he is on call if President Bush (no relation) ever gets bit at his ranch in Crawford....See MoreSnake from Outside, or from Inside House, + I have a Slow Drian
Comments (11)you don't have to rent anything. a closet auger will cost you less than 20.00 to buy. it is in the plumbing tools section at HD. let me ask you this, is this toile the closest one to the septic tank? if so you could have other issues. every winter the toilet in our MB does this same thing, the sinks/tub/other bathroom all work fine but this one toilet has slow flush or no flush and will drain itself down over a couple days and vent thru teh bowl. our problem is that our field gets flooded(taking care of that issue) around late Dec/early Jan and keeps 3-4 inches of water standing on it until about Feb. when the water stands this one toilet cannot flow. soon as the water goes away, everything works. so you COULD have a field problem causing it, though it likely is that someone flushed something they were not supposed to and it is stuck in teh bowl trap. when you pick up the auger, go ahead and spend another 2.00 and get a wax ring. you may need to pull the toilet to clear it and the ring MUST be replaced if you do....See MoreSnakes in the house...
Comments (8)I'll never forget my little run in with a snake. I went downstairs to do some laundry and found a garter snake on the floor. It totally creeped me out. I just hate snakes. Especially when you see them where you shouldn't. It was mid January in MN! We ended up with a few in the basement that winter. They were coming in through cracks in the foundation/cement block wall. My husband made up a little noose on a pole(kind of like what the dogcatcher would use to grab an animal. Of course, while he was out of town I found another snake. I had to force myself to use the pole and nab the snake. But I was so freaked out that instead of just tossing the snake out the basement window, I let the entire contraption fly. Good thing I didn't need to use the pole again because I wasn't going anywhere near that snake again-even if it was now a snake popsicle! That spring my husband made sure he sealed even the tiniest cracks in the foundation and that seems to have done the trick. Thank goodness....See MoreHelp - buying house, in contract, backyard overgrown and has snakes
Comments (24)I think it would actually be rude to ask the sellers to clean the place. I can't believe that anyone would think otherwise. Every man and his dog knows that the way to get the best price for your house is to have everything clean, sparkling and stripped of anything remotely verging on natural. Straight, clean lines. Not a blade of grass doing anything other than standing up straight. The world has gone mad in my opinion. When someone has 'neglected' their garden and it contains life, many would-be buyers run for the hills. Only more or less normal people are left to make an offer. Be glad that you got the place for the price you did. I don't have a problem with asking for something as a rule, but it has to be reasonable....See More- 11 years ago
