Frameless cabinets alternative to Ikea?

Hi all, I'm starting to plan a complete kitchen remodel and am thinking about cabinets. I may very well go with Ikea, but I want to price out some non-RTA alternatives as well. What are some frameless cabinet lines that are good quality but not absurdly expensive? TIA!

frameless from various US companies will cost you quite a bit more than ikea. You don't really want to go with any cheap type frameless, as the specs to get a frameless cabinet right is not as easy as framed cabinetry, therefore the cost becomes an issue. Brookhaven has been doing it for a while I believe. I just think you may have some sticker shock if you compare a good frameless cabinet to Ikea. It is a European thing-their homes have been full of frameless for a while as you eek out more storage and improved access for their smaller kitchens. We have much larger homes and can spare the inches used in framing and center stiles.etc. But with Ikea coming here and the phrase"full access", people thing it's really something new to embrace......but our domestic cabinet manufacturing with framing has nothing inherently wrong with it. Don't get too caught up......but some people are living in smaller dwellings now and the downsizing of kitchens therefore can be a case for frameless. Maybe just look for those wall cabinet sizes where you stay under the size where you see the center stile appear[33 in wide or less I think]..... that can make a big difference with access into the cabinet. And going to base drawers even in a framed cabinet will give you such improved storage from older base cabinets, you should be good,

In my rough estimation an alternative, barker, was around 3-4 times the cost of IKEA.

I use Google Sketchup. It has a steeper learning curve, but there are some helpful youtube videos on how to get started. Unlike the Ikea planner, Sketchup allows you to specify the precise measurements of every dimension (e.g., cabinet width/depth/height), so if you're doing fully custom cabinets it will be more useful than tools like Ikea's that only let you use off-the-shelf cabinet sizes. I'm even using it to figure out where to put a new window to get the best view into my backyard!

Cabinet sizes are exterior nominal sizes. Notbinterior. Each manufacturer will use slightly different actual real world specs and tolerances. Just like a 2x4 isnt 2x4. Also, Shiloh is not assemble yourself. And you’d need to be able to drill holes on unassembled bits to make adding permanent things work. Unless you own a close quarters right angle drill and can hold it very very steady, you’d end up ruining your new cabinets.

This is an old thread, but just in case someone is looking for info on those legs, I did NON-SCIENTIFIC test and I have no numbers to offer but read on... Background, I have been doingwoodworking as a hobby and I always over-engineer my creations for strength and durability. I can say with confidence I understand rather well issues involved here. Now the test: I usedBessey parallel clamps to exert pressure on the plastic leg as it would experience in service. By hand, the clamp will exert the pressure of roughly 1,700 PSI (pounds per square inch). I yanked it as hard as I could. Not even a sound of anything crackling. Then I use an adjustable wrench to get better leverage and I gave the clamp screw another 3 full turns. Not a crack whatsoever. Before I did the test I too was concerned about the legs being plastic, so I bought a set of the metal ones. Lo and behold, the metallic part is mostly just a decoration, the outer tube. The female thread for the for the bolts is plastic. So no matter which way you go, you are using plastic threads. I will be returning the metal legs and keep the plastic ones and I have no worries about the quartz countertop that will be sitting on top of my base Sektion cabinets.

herbflavor, I get your point. I actually like the look of the frameless cabinets more than face framed. Even with "full-overlay" doors, the face-frame style doesn't do it for me.

And 3-4 times cost of IKEA -- ouch!

FYI barker is also RTA. I believe I have seen a frameless line from omega mentioned here that is not RTA.

I was too brief with my previous comment. I should note that my comparison was Ikea white slab Veddinge versus Barker slab in white. There's a big difference in materials; Veddinge is one of the cheaper Ikea options, but good enough for me :-)
