True blue: Delphiniums, Gentiana asclepiada(not all), many alpine Gentianas, Brunnera, Scilla sibirica, Bellevalia forniculata, Commelina(for very mild climates), Omphalodes verna,Centaurea triumfetti,some Corydalis. There are some rare blue Penstemons, but nearly all are ungrowable here. Plants approaching true blue: some Tradescantias. Iris sibirica Big Blue has a true blue nerve in the middle of the falls. Have never seen a blue Campanula, and I had really many. Amsonias are pastel blue. None of Anemone nemorosa clones is true blue(I had them all).

brenda, i wonder if it just resents being transplanted. have you tried sowing the seeds in pots? or sowing them elsewhere? i'd love to try it. it's very pretty. i'm sure your patch is beautiful. yeah, the wildflowers in PA are incredible. there was one small area (not a park- actually in a strip mine) within a 5 minute walk of where i grew up that had troutlilies, trilliums, hepaticas, mayapples, solomon's seals, ferns, skunk cabbage, and probably lots more that as a kid i didn't know just in huge swaths. i can think of areas that had carpets of bloodroot, dutchman's breeches, wintergreen, violets in all colors, phlox, dame's rocket, columbines, jack in the pulpits, all within a 10 mile radius of my mom's place. and that's just the spring stuff i can think of off the top. we had so many trilliums around i always picked a bouquet for my mom & dad's anniversary because they were their favorite and i had no idea i was killing the plants. of course i'm embarrassed by that now, but they grew like weeds up there. is it any wonder with that bounty around i love wildflowers, especially the spring ephemerals? it's truly stuning up there. unfortunately, it's also cold and there aren't a lot of good jobs. where we you at, alicia, and what were the parks? i was lucky enough to grow up in the shadow of 2 wonderful (and very different) parks. i miss the scenery. and my family of course. that said, i love carolina. and, you know, i was on a plant save for the randleman lake project last yr (out towards winston salem), and there were carpets- and i mean solid sheets- of trillium cuneatum, troutlilies, bloodroots, dicentras, green dragons, hepaticas, tiarella, heucheras, asarums- evergreen & not, cinereria, violets, solomon's seal, iris cristata, toothwort, spring beauties, sevral types of ferns and so much more. and i was on a plant dig just a few weeks ago that was similar, if not as diverse or heavily covered right here in the triangle. and those are natural- not planned or planted areas. so it's out there- you just need to know where to look. for anyone into wildflowers a visit to the blomquist section of duke gardens is a must see. also, franklin co nature preserve is stunning. my advice for folks wanting to have wildflowers at an affordable price? join the nc wildflower society ($25 a yr for a single membership). they let you know where & when there are plant digs/saves and have nature walks and are a wealth of information all around. the folks are just super nice. and you're helping yourself while you're saving a small piece of nc wildlife from being bulldozed. the more the merrier! i sure wish i'd known about it sooner. tam

ILoveToGrow, looks like Hollywood Bob's may have some of the Chastain stock from the man who bought out Mary Chastain? ...... I can tell you that Verna Jean performs beautifully. I have about 5 of them and they grow fairly quickly. Last year I surrounded The Razor's Edge with them. Also Banana Muffins is a good one. If it is yellow it does pretty well in my climate. Here it is 7/31/2014. MadPlanter, my Pin Strip Sister just arrived. I'm hoping it does well here. One of my streakers from last year is leafing out, and so far all leaves have the streaks. All Jazzed Up....it looks great and vigorous. I've ordered and received 2 orders so far. I have about 2 in the pipeline, and 2 orders yet to place. Plus, I will be driving to north Alabama over Mother's Day holidays, and on the way home swing by Hostas On The Hill near Birmingham to see her garden and pick up about 10 of her hostas. The way I keep my slightly (well, maybe a little more than "slightly") over 500 hostas is in pots and in a dedicated hosta garden. I call it The Garden of The White Dove. Not so pretty right now, but that is a temporary condition. Hostas will cover the pots entirely in a matter of weeks. I am so glad my remodel is almost completed, because dealing with hostas in pots in south Alabama is a matter of being TIMELY....about the watering, about the drainage, and giving them a good springtime exposure to sunlight before the heat begins in earnest around mid June. First day of summer, longest day of the year, is when there is no shade on the north side of my house. Any pots sitting there must migrate to the south side of the house for afternoon shade, or else find a convenient umbrella. Not having really counted acquisitions since mid season 2014, I'm estimating that total different named hostas will be around 550 when orders are received.
