Some of my echinacea plants aren't looking too hot

One especially. It seems to just be giving up the ghost. One that is about 8 inches away from it looks better. Could they just need a lot of water? I thought they were native to the Western plains and could stand drought. Our soil is marginal, clay-type but the others seem to be doing okay. Do they need good soil to survive? Mine is the Echinacea one that is pink and the seeds don't need cold stratification. Thanks for any help!
