Comments (1)A "sanitary tee" is a specific kind of pipe fitting used where waste is involved (hence "sanitary") that allows one pipe to join in with a main run (a "T" shape). It is different than a "straight tee" in that the way it is shaped, flow down the main branch doesn't have as much of a tendency to flow into the branch....See MorePros and cons: vent cap designs for dryers, bath fans, etc
Comments (6)Heartsland is the best choice for wall vent. It is closed normally and stops everything including air penetration and then opens during use. Also does not trap lint for dryer vent. To make it look nicer, paint it the same color as the wall its on. I have one for a bathroom vent and one for a dryer vent (each originating in the basement). My vents for the main floor go out the roof (kitchen and bath). I installed a draft blocker in the vent line for the roof vents. The draft blocker was in the dryer vent section, but it is better to just use the heartland for the dryer and you don't need a draft blocker when using a heartland anyhow. I wouldn't really trust a draft blocker inline in a dryer vent anyhow would probably catch lint....See Moreisland vs peninsula in kitchen and hood vent design question
Comments (20)I like this plan a lot. I had sketched it out this way but wasn't sure it was really enough space. Thanks for taking the time to show the dimensions. My one concern about the refrigerator placement is whether of not it will make the kitchen feel "boxed" in when I am working in it. Maybe just when I am at the sink?. Question- could I put the DW next to the refrigerator without struggling with the DW door when it is open? I would most likely house my dishes and silver ware in drawers at that end of the island. It's nice to be able to move things straight from the DW into their storage spots without having to first put them on the island and close the DW door. I like the idea of the pantry. Do you have the space next to the pantry as a coat closet or the W/D? Thank you so much for responding and taking the time to sketch and upload. I am very, very appreciative....See Moregas stove with oven in island needing some kind of venting
Comments (3)Make your life easier and move the range to a wall. Life is too short for what your OP contemplates. Enjoy your kitchen more by having the island be for prep. That way your family and guests can hang out with you with a glass of wine, or help tossing the salad or whatever, without being splashed by screaming hot spatter from your range. Exhausting an island range is indeed a problem, but add to that the issues of designing the island to have enough landing space on either side of the range, and enough space for people to sit at the island without getting any splatter on them and without breathing in the smoke either. Don’t worry about the myth of having your range on the wall means turning your back on your guests. First, because most of the time in the kitchen is spent in prep and clean-up, and a fraction of the time is spent actually standing at the stove. Second, because when you are at the stove, you are looking down at your pots and pans, not up at your guests. Next time you are cooking at your stove, try looking up ”at your guests” while doing it. It‘s nearly impossible, and I blame TV cooking shows for making people think it’s cool to cook at an island while looking up....See MoreUser
