What kind of bees made these nests?

I have two "mason" bee hotels, one is a 4x4 with holes drilled and the other is a plastic tube with cardboard/paper insert nests. The 4x4 one has been occupied (for 2-3 years) by solitary bees that look a lot like yellow jackets...I've only seen one outside the holes and even with my face 2 inches away it was completely oblivious to my presence. These nests are plugged up but have smaller access holes through which I can often see the insect moving around...they all have the same yellow jacket type coloring and patterns.

Today I just noticed the other hotel (with cardboard nesting tubes) has 6 or 7

plugged up nests. The pattern on the outside plug of these is different from the patterns in the 4x4 nests.

I'm attaching some photos and hoping that someone might identify the hidden residents by the patterns on the plugs.
