Weeds...but I don't know the common ones in your area. Celcius herbicide will kill them for sure. It basically the only one you could use during this time of summer but it should be applied early morning when temps are below 85.

IF you don't want to go poison route, then watering less and cutting your lawn shorter and more often will allow the bermuda to squeeze them out. Rule of thumb for bermuda... mow at least once a week as low as you can and water 1 inch a week

Here is a pic of area between my and neighbors lawn...looks like both the same types of weeds bunched together(I'm in austin btw). I applied celcius about 7 days ago(takes about 10 to totally kill). The bigger weed is still pretty healthy so I might have to reapply.

Thanks for the help....Quick question, on the Scotts Green Max Lawn Food that I use, It recommends to actually mow a bit longer for stronger roots? I cut mine to about 2 1/4". I mow once per week and water about 15 minutes per day early in the morning.

As far as the poison goes, it hasn't been under 85 degrees at all for about 20 days. I'm assuming that is an important thing to follow to not hurt the lawn?

Gavin, that's crabgrass. The reason you have it is your care program. The biggest encouragement to crabgrass is the daily watering, but it still would have trouble getting started if you weren't mowing so high and infrequently. Tall bermuda is thin and allows plenty of sunlight down to the soil where the weed sprouts need it.

The clover looking weed is oxalis. You can kill that with Weed-B-Gone Chickweed, Clover, and Oxalis killer. Be sure it's safe for bermuda lawns first.

You would be much better off with the following care routine:

Weekly

Mow every other day at 1/2 to 1 inch high. Bermuda should be mowed low to become the most dense. Picture the density of a putting green mowed at 3/16-inch high. Mowing at 1/2 inch is almost that good.

Water once but apply a full inch. Time how long it takes to apply a full inch by setting out cat food or tuna cans around the yard. Time how long it takes to fill the cans and that's your new watering time. If you're still in the heat wave of last weekend, you could water once every 5 days, but when it gets back down below 105 and into the 90s, then once every 7 days should be enough. This works. I was in Tempe and Gilbert last weekend and visited a friend with St Augustine. He waters once every week and it's still too much. He's got disease issues from too much water. If he can do it with St Aug, you can do it with bermuda. When the temps drop into the 80s, back off to once every 2 weeks. When you allow the surface of the soil to dry out completely before watering again, the crabgrass seed cannot germinate.

High nitrogen, low everything else, fertilizer.

If you decide that this level of care is more effort than you want to put in, then you might consider switching to St Augustine. That's what my buddy in Gilbert did and he's happy. With St Aug you only fertilize 3x per year and only mow once a week or two. St Aug is a coarse bladed grass like crabgrass and likes to be mowed very high (opposite of bermuda).

Paul, that looks like hybrid bermuda on the left and common bermuda on the right. Are you sure it's not just the two grasses mingling that looks weedy?

Hey dchall, nope both yards were sodded with tifway 419 roughly 2 years ago... my neighbor's back yard is perpendicular to mine so he owns a 30x4 foot strip at street... he mows at about 4-5 inches, rarely waters, never ferts. So I've taken it upon myself to care of this part since it looks like its part of my lawn...this picture shows perfect how mowing/water/fert can help a bermuda lawn. Also, those weeds are dead now :)

To be clear, I'm not a professional lawn care guy. I'm a hobbiest. Some people have lawn care as their hobby. My hobby is reading about lawn care, sifting through the BS and trying things to find out what works, and then writing about lawn care. You'll note that I don't post any pictures of my own lawn unless there's a story to tell. Morph, on the other hand, has many hobbies which include actual lawn care along with writing about lawn care.

Here's a picture of my last lawn in George West, Texas.

George West is on the eastern edge of the Texas desert. Rainfall is scant, but humidity is higher than you'd expect in a desert. If you look carefully you can see my dog's ears and tail. She's about 30 inches tall. The story to tell there is that besides not having mowed for several seasons, I had similarly not watered that area for several seasons. The point being that tall grass is much more drought tolerant than grass mowed short.

Wow, lots of info dchall, thanks. I will never be able to meet that mowing schedule. The grass is called Midiron, it's a sod I got from Evergreen here in AZ. Should I start with just the watering change? Other than the weeds, I've been very happy with the grass. Thanks again.

Guys, Thanks for all of the advice. The Celcius herbicide worked like a charm and I've changed the watering schedule so the weeds seem to be staying away.

New problem....pet spots in the backyard. I emailed Scotts and they say....As far as we know, Mr. Hickson, there is no antidote for the damage to your lawn caused by dog urine. Damage can usually be avoided or lessened by watering these areas thoroughly to dilute the concentration of nitrogen in the area.
