Adding pull out shelves to older base cabinets
Comments (9)I was going to pay the fortune, eventually, for pull-outs. I have since done the following: Found a bunch of pull-outs w/ glides at the reuse center for $2.00 each. (I can't use them, but I couldn't pass them up. Anyone local want 'em? We can talk.) And, I've taken drawer boxes (reuse center) and put glides I got there (another $2.00 each) on them. The tricky part was finding the drawers that with the glides, would fit in the cabinet doors. In the meanwhile, I've found drawer bases ($10.00 each) and have trashed (redonated) the stupid lower reach-in base cabs. But I felt pretty clever. The drawer boxes actually made better pull-outs, since they were deeper!...See MoreDoes anyone have a Kraftmaid Base Pots and Pan Pull Out?
Comments (10)Melanie, thanks for the follow up. "Glass Land" came from the fact that I have a "plastic land" - that's my husband's name for where all the rubbermaid/gladware/and, yes, we have one of those carousel storage systems is. If I could figure out how to embed a picture in these posts, I'd attach a picture of my current glass land. I have everything stacked on top of each other - DH refuses to put dishes away in it. I feel like drawers won't help with accessibility very much - I'll still have to stack items on top of each other. Diamond actually has a couple of pictures that show this same pull-out really loaded up, and it looks very versitile. Both pullouts can slide separately so there's no reaching under and over things. I still would have to stack items, no question, but it seems like a better option than just a regular 2 pullout trays. Maybe? http://www.diamondcabinets.com/Lowes/storage/storage_detail.cfm?sectionID=3&imgID=101 http://www.diamondcabinets.com/Lowes/storage/storage_detail.cfm?sectionID=3&imgID=100...See MoreInstalling spice pulls - 9" base
Comments (2)It must be between two cabinets, or a cabinet and a full 3/4" side panel. You must use fillers against walls to account for the out of square situations, soif you want it against a wall, you'd need at least a 1 1/2" filler, then a 3/4" side panel, then your pull out. Meaning you'd need around 12" for a 9" pull out to work....See MoreCan I hack a trash pull-out from an Ikea 15 inch depth cabinet base
Comments (19)The left is mounted on the side panel and the right is mounted on a special piece that IKEA sold for this application. Don't know if they still sell it, but I'm sure it could be reproduced. The center piece is basically a 1 1/2" piece of MDF that extends the depth of the cab and is secured at the back and front to the bottom of the cab. It functions as a short cab wall and I have a drawer rail mounted on both sides. In your case you could position in where you need to achieve your right wall. I hope I'm explaining this clearly enough, but hope this pic helps. I can take more pix tomorrow if that will help you. IKEA under sink pullouts...See Moresherri1058
