It looks and sounds so nice in action! I think you have to do a little more rock placing to cover the most obvious parts of the liner along the edge of the stream. Then, can you add more dirt to the sides so you can actually plant something? Fake plants won't look very good. I'm thinking of plants like hosta and hakonechloa grass that will soften and cover the edges, and can drape over any pipes or liner that you can't get with rock. Hosta are very tough. Or if you can add at least an inch or two of dirt, you could plant a groundcover that doesn't need much depth to its roots like vinca. If you really don't think you can add enough dirt perhaps some low, natural-colored containers placed around the area would work.

Nice work - I have never done a water feature so I can't really help. But I suggest one thing you could do is google images for something like "garden water feature". You may get some ideas of how to finish off your project. The one thing I notice in all of the pictures on-line is that most of them have some larger sized rocks, and more of them.Obviously in the picture below, the rocks are very very large, but it strikes me that you could use a few rocks that are larger than what you have now to cover some of the mechanics of the water pump.

Agree with la-la that small hostas and hakonechloa grass would be a really good fit. Also I'd suggest the japanese painted ferns such as "Pictum".

Thanks guys. This is exactly the type of advice I was looking for. I was looking at pictures of other waterfalls - but the problem is that I don't know what those different plant/grass types are called. Also, I was concerned that my soil is so shallow, I wasn't sure what types of plants I would even be able to grow there. May use a planter in the front as an easy way to hide some of the pond liner. And that rock textured liner is really cool!

I wasn't really able to put larger rocks because my area is so small - and they were too heavy for me to lift on my own. But I learned a lot from doing this project. Next time I build one of these, I know a lot more of what I need to plan ahead.

Also I think I will try to fill in some other areas with soil so I can plant more things around. Are there varieties of hostas that are small? I have some as ground cover in other parts of my yard and they grow quite big. That's the main challenge I have - I need to find plants that can grow somewhat large, but in a small space. I will look up some of the other plants you guys mentioned.

Yes, there are lots of small hostas that should be fine in a small space if you treat them nicely otherwise.

Creeping Jenny will grow and spread in very little soil. It is also very easy to trim and/or pull if it goes where you don't want it.

Creeping Jenny (lysimachia) is an invasive plant! It spreads vigorously and is highly aggressive - as noted in the linked article. As a matter of fact, I'm surprised Fine Gardening even listed the plant. It may be easy to pull runners, but who knows were the seeds will end up. Very irresponsible to plant this one.
