All food garden. heh heh That looks great! I like how you did the planter boxes propped on cinderblocks. They look really nice. I've seen pictures of similar up in roof gardens. And I like that adjustable pot holder on the rail. I've been looking for decent ones - especially windowbox size, because my metal rail is just so bizarre that many of the standard holders just don't work. Very pretty. I think Roses make a great backdrop to other smaller plants in the garden. Jen

I like the holly - I think I've got a 'Blue Princess' and a 'Blue Prince,' but my memory isn't clear on that, since I bought them at different times and different places. The female holly is VERY vigorous, but the male is quite wimpy - no idea why, they're planted within 10 feet of each other. Oh, well. I think I'd wait until spring to plant shrubs now - winter is just around the corner for us. There are SO many plants I love in my yard - it will be hard to leave most of them behind. But, I'll take as many daylilies as I can, depending on when we move, and a handful of other favorites. But, plants grow - so even a new yard will look full and established in a few years. While the new garden is small, the little details will be just as interesting. Laurel

Thank you for all the wonderful comments :) Each one, when it arrived in my email, made me smile again! I still have so much that I want to do, but it does feel nice to have some areas that are staring to come together! As very few people around me have gardens with more than evergreen shrubs, it is nice to hear such lovely comments every once in a while! I do have a lot of pink :) Funny, because my favorite colour is actually purple! My favorite photo is also the second one, with the lighter pink lupines and darker pink peonies. Lupine was moved there last year so this is the first year it has bloomed like that, and while I thought it would be pretty, I never imagined how nicely they would fit together! thyme2dig - Supreme Sultan really is a beauty isn't he? Such large blooms, and so many on each stalk that it weighs them down and I need to prop them up between other flowers to keep them upright!!! And luscious colour, so rich. One of my favorite Irises!
