Hi Sam..., What a cool sounding project! Our store (not me!) did a big wall similiar to this idea, to look like old European walls. * Find a product called "Texture-stone" by Insul-x. * It normally comes in 2-gal. pails. * Surface needs to be clean & primed b4 putting this on!! * Use a grout-float/trowel to apply. * Build up different areas with additional coats, feathering some spots more than others, to resemble your "crumbling/peeling plaster". * When your "plaster" has the crumbly, uneven look you want, prime your applied texture-coats. * Then, pick a "main color" of your new surface...dull gray, etc.. * NOW, the REALLY decorative part!! Use a few mossy-greens mixed with glaze to give the appearance of moss. Sponge this on, letting each color dry a while. Choose "accent" areas where you want it "mossier"!! Have fun! Faron

Tamster, I'm sure besides myself there are hundreds if not thousands of people going through what you are going through......wallpaper removal leaving a horrible base for a new beginning. ThreeDGrad, The color in your bathroom is sooooo refreshing, so soothing! And your kitchen wall, stucco'd with that backsplash, look as if it was made together....love it! Pesky1, I would love to see your bathroom wall! I can never have enough inspiration when it comes to this home that was covered in wallpaper (on top of sheetrock and some walls had 5 layers of wallpaper!) from the front door to the back door...literally! Amysrq, I've used the paintable wallpaper several times....it's wonderful stuff to cover what ails ya. Do you happen to have a pic of the paintable? Bronwynsmom, My gosh..... All of it.....Just beautiful! I just pulled hubby in here to see your window seat/bookcases. Love them! Tamster, When we purchased this home, some rooms had 5 layers of wallpaper from big yellow daisys on vinyl to flocked....the inside of the front and back door were even wallpapered! Not one wall had been pred'd correctly.....all wallpaper was put on non-prime'd drywall. Took forever to get it all off. I'd get sooo bored I'd move to a different room and start removing the wallpaper in there just to have a different scenic view....from Big yellow daisys to flocked geraniums. By the time we cleaned up the house just to make it liveable, the funds were very low. Big decision...... buy hundreds of dollars of drywall/sheetrock, drywall tape, buckets of drywall mud, labor with putting it all up in all the rooms, the sanding, the dust..... OR, cover the bad walls with drywall mud creating some texture and interest. We picked the drywall mud. Drywall mud does NOT have to be applied thick. Just enough to disguise the bad walls. A coat of primer on top of the mud when it's dry and you're good to go....a nice blank slate. Our dining room. Border has been removed since this pic was taken. The front bathroom was done with the rolls of paper a doctor uses on the examining table. It was free from a neighbor....a nurse.... and I was determined to repurpose it. When it was dry, I added some raised stencils in a couple places.

I like glazed walls and am definitely an amateur--with a little experience. The easiest method, to me, is start with, for example, a BM pearl finish undercoat, and then take one of the metallic glazes, and cut it with one of the clear glazing mixtures--about 30 to 50 percent. You have to be pretty quick, and agile: have a stool handy. Roll on your glazing mixture top to bottom, and then hop on your stool with a long wallpaper brush--one that is about 30 some inches. In one gesture, move from top to bottom in one fell swoop. Repeat until your legs give out! You should practice on a piece of foam core or something like that to ascertain the percentage of color that you want....because once you start, if you get it wrong, you will see where you have played with the glaze too much--and you'll have to do the whole wall to make it look even. In my experience, metallics are unforgiving about "do-overs". They start to accumulate unevenly...

Love those pendants! I love Tuscany but even when the faux Tuscan look was ”stylish” like you, I never liked it. That green is just gorgeous 3pinktrees! I have to admit I am a little OCD as far as something not being authentic and in your words, trying to be something that it’s not. I do like simple more than most, just ask Lyn. :))) It sounds like you know what you want and it will be gorgeous. Can’t wait to see what you do.
