Can someone help me identify my Stickley chair?
Comments (3)I'm not sure if I can remember the exact line up but I think it went Gustave Stickley late 1800's then Stickley bros, 1900 to 1920 then L and JG 1920 to ? and finally just Stickley. I'm pretty sure these dates are not very close either. Unfortuatly I don't have a mind that retains precise information and have to rely on intuition. I once had an entire Gustave Stickley dining room set. The buffet took four guys to lift. Unfortunatly in those days stickley had yet to hot it's stride and I eventually settled for a mere $5500.00 for the entire 13 piece set. hindsight is always 20-20....See MoreCan someone tell me soething about china cabinet
Comments (8)Linda , who are you talking to ? Refinishing furniture is not about "what's it going to be worth when I'm done" .If it was I would not be in business for as long as I have. Maybe with all your knowledge you should open your own shop and offer dipping, and teach how to float an old finish . $700 to refinish that piece ? Are we getting that price from "Bob" who works out of his garage or a furniture refinsher who makes a full time living from his craft. You hosed down your furniture ? Now your really showing off your skills. Not rocket science , NO , but any day you wanna step up to my strip tank and strip a piece like this lady has, I'll see you and your 3 kids 2-3 days later depending on how much paint is on there and how the first coat took to the wood.MY guess is you'd give up before lunch. Be sure to let me know when ya run out of steel wool and brass brisled tooth brushes. You can continue to tell people to float their finishes and to put new finish over years of old finish and dirt.It may cut it for the hobbiest or the guy working in his barn. However it does not work for the general public who are paying top dollar for my services. You may be nice to everyone that comes on these forums, but it's people like yourself that are a danger to others who know less than you do and think your word is the gospel. I will continue to defend my practice of not taking a short cut and that there is only one way to do it. The right way. NOT my way ,but the right way....See MoreCan someone help identify this china cabinet?
Comments (17)Ohmygosh Leximom! I have an EXACT same China cabinet! In fact, I have the whole dining room set-China cabinet, large buffet, small server, trestle table with claw-foot legs, 4 side chairs, 2 arm chairs! It was purchased at a local auction (eastern PA) many years ago. Like you, I was eager to find any info on it. The other day I found tags on the undersides of the chairs. (Never thought to look there before until by brother suggested it.) The set was made by the Thomasville Chair Company of Thomasville, NC. I'm guessing around the 1930s. Here's a website for a history of the company: http://www.fundinguniverse.com/company-histories/thomasville-furniture-industries-inc-history/ There's a Thomasville store nearby and I'm going there in the next few days with photos of all the pieces. I'm hoping they can give me more exact dates and any other info they have. If I find out more, I'll let you know. They're beautiful pieces, and I just cleaned ALL the draw pulls with Wright's copper cleaner. They look fabulous-bright and shiny again. Can't believe I found your post. I just noticed the numbers stamped ONLY on the China cabinet pulls and searched for that. Here's a photo of the buffet:...See MoreMy son's neighbor gave him these seeds. Can someone help me identify?
