If you have Microsoft Security Essentials installed on Windows 7 you
need to uninstall it before upgrading to Windows 10. Once you upgrade,
it doesn't work but can't be uninstalled.

I'm attempting to make Win10 work on the only windows machine we have, a Toshiba Satellite. Win10 won't keep Bitdefender "on". I can set it to "on", but after a requested restart, Win10 warns there is no virus software.

QuickBooks doesn't work...yet. I'm tweaking it.

Upon start up, the machine reboots three times before stabilizing.

I'll make a few more tweaks and if it doesn't perform well, I'll revert to Win7.

Brushworks, thank you for the heads up for QuickBooks. It's essential to our small business - I'll be holding off on the update for now. DH may retire first of the year but until then I'm running invoicing, payroll liabilities, income for two households through QuickBooks.

*I might add, you said you are 'tweaking' it. My training in QuickBooks has come from my accountant showing me where she wants figures/entries for her year end work, I'm not formally trained nor am I an accountant. I suspect 'tweaking' beyond my knowledge ;)

May you never be forced to try it! Perhaps with all the updates Microsoft sends to Windows 10, some of the other tricks that used to work no longer do--or perhaps the action that brings on the black screen with cursor has a bearing on which solution will work. Lol, could it be that a year or two years from now, the sixth time will be the charm?

The link says the update also affects virtual machine software and certain GPUs. Do you or anyone you know use a WWAN or a virtual machine configuration ? I don't know anyone who uses them regularly (other than some remaining USB modems for PCs which are much less common and I'll say even rare now because of smartphone hotspot functionality) and I'm in a pretty techie dense place, Silicon Valley. Do you know what these or a GPU are?

I have Windows 10 and haven't had any of the problems you mention (consistently, at least; sometimes photos stayed grayed out and won't resolve, which I think is a size or connectivity issue, or a whole post with multiple photos will just disappear, which I am sure is a collective file size issue). I click on Photo at the bottom and a File Explorer window pops up, pointing to whatever folder I last uploaded pictures from. There is a navigation pane on the left that I can use to navigate to my downloads folder, or pictures folder, or to the smart card from my camera that I shoved in the smart card port. From there I can choose whatever photo I want. It sounds like something is going wrong in that process for you? What file format are you trying to upload (e.g. jpg, gif, bmp, etc.)? I remember reading a discussion at one point that suggested that troubles came up with certain graphics file types. I think I mostly have jpegs and bitmaps, and haven't had trouble. Not sure about gifs.

Tweaking Win10, not QB.

I made a change today and it silenced the error message and QB is up and running.

I upgraded MSXML4 TO MSXML6.

My laptop is 64 bit and it works for me, but may not work on other machines.
