New Home Last Summer, Now I Need Lawn Help.
Comments (3)He he he... Now you know why they tell you never to seed into a sodded Bermuda.... It's like Dogs... Tell your buddy you want a Dog - and he shows up with something that looks NOTHING like the dog you already have.... Yes... It's true that it's a dog - just not the same kind... Same for Bermuda... Most of the cheap, box store varieties are what I like to call "Cow field" Bermuda.. That stuff is only a step away from the wild Bermuda they call "Wire grass"... The Turfgrass supply companies sell different varieties that are improved, darker green, lower growing, green up earlier and go dormant later... You will probably see names like Yukon, Princess77, and LaPrima.... but there are others too... Bermuda spreads like mad... If you want a consistent yard - and you already have *Some* bermuda... all you gotta do is fertilize the stuffing out of it all summer long starting after your 2nd mow. Check out the Garden guide on caring for Bermuda grass... It's incredibly simple... It's commonly referred to as "The Bermuda Bible"... This season - err on the side of More fertilizer rather than less and you will do better... (2+ lbs N/month won't hurt anything) You could also ask Mr. Builder what actual type of Bermuda he used and where he bought it... Buy some sod and lay it out in strips - 1 full strip, 1 blank strip, etc... With proper care - it will easily fill in by the end of the season... thus saving you a pile 'O money... Thanks...See MoreCan Plants help keep my house cool in the Summer?
Comments (1)Actually what you need is a plant OUTSIDE your house. A large deciduous tree placed strategically so that it shades your house in the summer but the light gets through in the winter. We were lucky to buy a house with a HUGE red maple out front that does a great job of keeping our A/C bill way down....See MoreNeed flooring help for my kitchen and house!
Comments (6)Swissmissmama, You're welcome! Also, one last piece of flooring advice: make sure to hire a reputable installer. The best flooring can experience failures of all sorts if the installation isn't done correctly. Cpartist, great comments and questions! I have heard similar inquires, and I must say, the technological process behind lvt has evolved greatly in recent times. Some of the samples I've seen lately are quite astounding, and time spent on care for the floors has improved substantially as well. It is true that luxury vinyl is made from PVC, but depending on the floor manufacturer, the PVC can come from a sustainable source. For example, Parterre Flooring uses salt (an extremely abundant resource) as the main component for the PVC in their luxury vinyl. Additionally, the material can be made from recyclable materials/can be recycled (or even both). As with all building materials, no one item can be considered "green" on its own, it is the eclectic mixture of components that determine how sustainable it is. Comments (55)With the wood ceilings putting a color on the walls will just darken the space. I think keep it white. My go-to white is Ben Moore's "Chantilly Lace": it's bright without being too blue or too yellow. Are you going to rent this out as an AirB&B or just keep it as a guest house/space? If so, you don't need a large fridge. You could just get counter height fridge and freezer and put where the fridge is now, or on that far wall where you now have the 2 stools and build up more work space where the fridge is. https://www.amazon.com/under-counter-freezer-Home-Kitchen/s?k=under+counter+freezer&rh=n%3A1055398 If ya want to paint the doors a color that's find. Maybe navy instead of black. Or even red - kinda goes with a farmhouse.......See Moresena01
