Some August ffo's and reblooms

I had two ffo's in the past two days from plants I got in late June.

Juicy Bubble Butt is a very late hybridized by Nate Bremer of Solaris Farms. I hope this is really JBB. It's not the saturated bubblegum pink in Nate's photo, and it has a lot more teeth, and teeth on the sepals. I think the color is lighter because our temps have been in the mid-90s recently. Additional teeth could be because of the difference in climates.

Billy the Kid is a Maryott intro that I received from Bill as a bonus. I had requested this one and am really liking the first blooms. Nancy, remember when I saw yours and was hoping I'd get it as a bonus?

Seedling Emperor Butterfly X Great White on rebloom

Seedling SOT X RR (formerly Valentine Sweetheart) on rebloom. Today its throat is pinching and it has several teeth. The parent, Rosy Rhino, sometimes has the throat pinching. This is the first time I've seen the seedling do it.

Seedling True to Whim X Persian Pattern, likely a future registration, with its last bloom today. This one has bloomed for a very long time. It's very tall - with most scapes 52-56 inches carrying 18-20 buds. Multiplies like crazy. This scape got beat down by the storm that took out part of my tree.

Late bloomer Tiffany Shade made a pretty clump this morning.

Trance, Royal Jester, Last Chance for Romance and Final Touch also had multiple blooms open today, and there were a few other lates with one flower open. Other than a few of my new ones with ffo's coming this week, there's not much excitement in the garden right. now.

Wish I knew what they were thinkin' when they name these daylilies, Juicy Bubble Butt? I like the teeth, need to look up the hybridizers picture I guess, yours looks nice. Your Billy the Kid is starting off nicely, mine was ok the first bloom, but got better with each bloom. Maybe it needed warmer temps to really get the look, but I really like it. I don't know how it will do when it is established, but every flower looked different, which I liked. How great to have such a nice clump like Tiffany Shade blooming now.

Great late season blooming for you. That VSH gets me every time, gets better and better, hope you pick a new name soon.

Mantis - English Lavender is not a particularly vigorous grower in my garden. It increased from two fans to three the first year I had it, but did not increase at all last year in the drought. Mine bakes for 10 hours a day in the sun. I'm very pleased with rebloom this year on every scape. It always opens well and had 16-18 buds on the original scapes. Gilded By Grace is having much larger blooms on rebloom. Both blooms in the photo above were 5.5 inches. Linda and Jean - Gilded By Grace is a good one, and it likes the heat. Chris - Long John Silver is having its best year ever. Strange Brew has grown in a pot with two other Hansons for five years with no fertilizing this spring. Not a lot of buds in those conditions. It usually looks more red than purple. But the past two days it has looked very purple. I'm sure if it were in the ground and had enough sun, it would perform well. What Hanson doesn't? Curt really doesn't introduce them unless they are performers. Nat - It seems pretty early for your Tahlequah Flame to be blooming. Do you have any other lates starting? Julia - As far as I'm concerned, English Lavender is the ultimate lavender as far as color. It's definitely one of the prettiest blooms in the garden. I love the white watermark and edge. Marric, Jean and Chris - Strange Brew usually has red undertones. It does have a very nice edge and is a large flower. But it's probably my least favorite Hanson. Debra

Blazing Cannons fades some, but it is still very colorful by evening. It's not one of my favorite reds because it has an orange base. I prefer the blue reds like Insider Trading and Red Edition. It does have a good bud count though. Our high temp today was 97 with a heat index of 113. Here's how it looked at 7:30 p.m. It's in full sun all day. Nancy - Although we got quite a bit of rain the first week of July, most of the showers since then have gone north or east of us. Except for the red bed and the seedling bed which I water daily, the other beds are very dry and there's lots of bad foliage. Debra

Like the Skater and Royal Jester pics. You seem to have a lot of rebloom this year. After thinking my season would never end last year due to rebloom, it has been rare to see rebloom scapes this year. Certainly not due to lack of rain as it has been plentiful (sorry for all of you that have not) and lilies seem to be putting energy into multiplying as they certainly are doing that!! Valentine Sweetheart is already registered so without the 's your desired name is the same name. That's why the registrar won't allow it. I used to be on the registration committee and we just did not allow such close to duplicate names. We even found one that was spelled in two completely different ways but it sounded the same. Unfortunately it was not caught before it got into the books. Kwan Yin and Kuan Yin are in the data base. Others homonyms exist.

Nancy - Juicy Bubble Butt is certainly not a name I would give a daylily. LOL But I liked the look and the fact it blooms very late. I'll just have to look beyond the name. Bremer's photo has it looking a deep saturated pink similar to my seedling, the former Val. Sweetheart.

Sherry - If I reserve a name for the former Val. Sweetheart with the AHS, I cannot put it in print or label it as such in the garden or the reservation is voided. I guess I will have to keep the name hush hush until registration.

You do get a nice ruffling edge on your daylilies. Nice clump pic of Tiffany Shade. I don't blame you for keeping the name hush hush for now. I'm sure you picked another great name for a lovely bloom.

Just out of curiosity - Have you definitely decided on your new name for the former Valentine Sweetheart? If you can say, will you register it as a midseason bloomer?.......Gosh, to have a clump of anything now is special. Tiffany Shade is sure a pretty thing.....Your other pink seedling is a nice shade of pink. I like it and will look forward to it next year.....I'm not overwhelmed by the color, form or name on JBB, but I do like the Maryott bonus. Nice patterned eye..............Maryl
