van & suv owners: why did you choose your vehicle?
Comments (2)I have a Chrysler Town & Country that I love! I have only had it a year so I can't address it's long-term reliability, and it is a lease so I'll never know. I just know I am so happy with it. It is my first mini-van and I've had kids for over 10 years. You obviously know how wonderful it is to own a minivan! What I like best are the stow-and-go seats which fold totally flat into the floor. I don't know if this feature is available with the auto button that you mentioned. While the rear seat is a breeze to flip down, the middle seats are kind of bulky to move - with your wrist issues you may want to play with one at the dealership. The ride is nice, the layout is nice. My last car was a Volvo wagon and I like the T&C so much better, plus it cost so much less! That Volvo was very noisy. If I had any complaint about the T&C it would be that the AC is kind of weak, but I guess it has a big job to do. Several of my friends own T&Cs and all of them are very happy with them. When my lease is up I plan to get another one as well. Nicole...See MoreDo you use your coffeemaker on your counter under your cabinets?
Comments (36)I had the same concern. I do have a little coffee station that my Dh built. It was a consolation prize because I really wanted the Bosch built in coffee maker. And he said it was too much and that our Coffee maker works just fine. I have no idea what you should do. I wish I had a suggestion. Here is my coffee nook. I love it, but keep in mind I did not spend lots on cabinetry. I would have rather had new cabs. ~boxer Here is a link that might be useful: E-How coffee makers and cabinets...See MoreHow do you choose a style?
Comments (6)Thank you for asking! I have a 1920's side hall colonial. It has some original molding, but other than that doesn't really have much in the way of architectural interest. My downstairs consists of a very small entryway with stairs immediately to the left, a living room to the right and straight ahead a small open hallway leading to the kitchen. Between the living room and kitchen is a dining room, and there is a bathroom off the kitchen. The total downstairs is about 650 SF and pretty much all of the spaces open up into each other. Currently, my living room is painted a flat creamy white with the molding painted the same color which makes it fade into the walls. I'm think that painting the walls a different color than the molding might add more interest. I was thinking doing BM Dove White molding and BM Putnam Ivory walls. I don't have a coffee table at the moment. I had a glass top coffee table and glass top side tables, but now that I have a 20-month old the glass became dangerous. (He tried to climb on it!) So I put my old tables in the basement and purchased these: There are matching twin coffee tables but I thought maybe a large ottoman might be the most practical option for our lifestyle as my son is rambunctious and like to dive onto the furniture. :) Do you think that would be a bad look? I just ordered this rug in blue, which hasn't arrived yet: I think I might get rid of the window treatments, but I'm not sure what color to go with. I don't really like the built in painted wood rod holders so I might rip them out when I repaint and replace it with hardware. I would get rid of the metal side ties as well. I also need to replace the shades, as they have cords and are not safe for my little one to be around unattended. I have an open bookshelf that I used to store things I don't want my son to get to but I need more decorations added to it. (It currently has the phone, a basket w/remotes, a lamp and little else.) I think if I got some sort of corner entertainment center that looked nicer than what I currently have and a flat screen tv, it might help my "media corner". I would also be nice to have a place to put my surround sound speaker, but I don't know if that is realistic. I haven't found anything yet. I wonder if my framed art looks too stuffy. I love Mattise and Picasso but I have five pictures all with the same fram and I wonder if it makes things too boring. I also wonder if it looks to juvenile - I'm 31. Do I need to replace them? Of course changing all of these things will cost money, which is tight at the moment! Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated! I'm going to post pictures as soon as I can. Thank you!...See MoreWhere do you eat your meals and why do you like to eat there?
Comments (57)Sorry for the yellowed image, it's gloomy outside today, but this is the view from the eating area in our kitchen. Here is where we eat 95% of our meals during cool or super hot weather, if it's mild or warm, we eat out side at the table. Our dining room is for larger gatherings. I love it there too, but rarely would the two of us choose to eat there alone. I've cleaned up the table so that the bottles of vitamins, supplements and Kleenex box are on the island, normally they live at DH's place! The tv is on the counter, to the right of the table. DH hates it being on in the mornings because it disturbs his reading of the paper, however we are usually watching the news or Jeopardy during dinner. Rarely do we eat in the den. We just don't find it comfortable to hang over the low coffee table while sitting on the sofa. Although that said, DH takes a tray in there when I'm having a Mahjongg game at the kitchen table. DD moved to Georgia and has the above areas and a darling screened in porch. I think that would be the best of both worlds....See MoreRuss Barnard
