It's a rose. It looks good. If you feel the need to do something to it you can cut out any dead wood you see. Feed it some "rose food" when the last change of freezing weather has passed. Other that that I would leave it alone.

I don't think it's Atropa. I'm pretty sure, though, that it's a Solanum, possibly Solanum americanum or Solanum ptycanthum. The first species is toxic (although not as deadly as many other "Black Nightshades") and the second is "edible" but only "in small quantities" (whatever that means). Just becauses birds eat something doesn't mean that humans can or should. Birds can assimilate a lot of toxins in their digestive system that mammals -- including humans -- cannot. Joe

ahhh.. win some.. lose some .. lol .. you have a very diverse garden... you will learn.. next year.. that the prior gardener.. probably planted things to have waves of bloom or color.. thru the whole season ... [thought this late in fall ... not much is blooming] fall is not the time to bemoan no color ... its time to see the light at the end of the tunnel called winter... knowing it will bloom.. next year ... for some of us.. in snow country.. its the only thing that gets us thru winter....
