What is Happening to My Butterfly Blue Scabiosa?
Comments (11)Thank you for your response. I never saw anything that looked like mildew on the leaves and I just reinspected them and do not see evidence of the mildew now. From what I observed, leaves turned yellow very quickly, over the course of a couple of days, and are now dead - crispy brown only three to four days later. There are healthy looking leaves and now dead ones. I don't see any obvious insect activity (eating leaves or eggs). It seems as though it the problem might be found in the roots? I just don't know what to look for. If I pull up some roots what should I look for? Should I immediately pull this plant or try to revive it? I realize this depends on the problem. Could soil pH have something to do with this? It seems like a long time for a pH problem to manifest but my soil is very acidic. It seemed to thrive in it for months (quadrupled in size since planted in the fall) and put on an amazing bloom earlier this spring. Or perhaps it is the heavy clay soil (even amended) that is getting to it, finally? Any additional suggestions would be greatly appreciated....See MoreWhat is happening to my Honey Blue Angel?
Comments (9)Many people think that girl leaves have ruffled edges, and that ruffling is what makes it a girl leaf. The defining trait of a girl leaf is a white or yellowish spot at the bottom of the leaf near the stem. The photo in the above post shows this spot very clearly. The photo of the original post does not. It is true that most girl leaves are ruffled, but again, the ruffling is not the defining trait of a girl leaf, it's the spot. There are some girl leaves that are not ruffled. The new leaves in the photo appear to be 'variegated'. Barbara...See MoreAny polyantha as pretty as Blue Mist?
Comments (26)I just happened on to this old post and in hopes that someone might still be interested in "what makes a mini a mini". Here is what was explained to me many years ago by Ralph Moore himself, " the classification for a mini rose is determined by the size of the foliage not the size of the plant". Blue Mist has very small foliage but the plant itself will get more than 5 feet tall in our central California climate, the same goes for Sweet Chariot. For those living in colder climates you will find that the winters will keep the growth in check. I have several micro mini's that are 6 to 7 feet tall and still growing but the leaves are still micro mini in size. I hope this is helpful to someone....See MoreWhat annuals look nicely with Blue Mist Spirea
Comments (8)That is just beautiful! I wish I could get my gardens to look like that. I am seriously thinking of tearing all the beds in the back yard completely out and starting over again. I winter sowed everything so cost would not really matter, This is my second summer gardening and I have learned a ton. But the beds are like a jungle and I can't stand them. I think I have just tried too many plants and that is part of the messy look. It looks like a class of first graders planted these beds. Anyway thanks for the help I will see about getting some of seeds for the plants you mentioned. I loved your garden picture....See Morebegonia2015
