Comments (4)Aphids can cause damage because they increase in numbers so quickly - and yes, common. But they are such soft bodied small things, they aren't that difficult to control if you keep an eye out for them and take care of them early. Wipe them off with paper towels, knock them off with a spray from the hose, use an insectidical soap if they get a head start before you've noticed them...or possibly best of all, encourage lady bugs in your garden - those will happily eat your aphids :)...See MoreWhat is happening to my Honey Blue Angel?
Comments (9)Many people think that girl leaves have ruffled edges, and that ruffling is what makes it a girl leaf. The defining trait of a girl leaf is a white or yellowish spot at the bottom of the leaf near the stem. The photo in the above post shows this spot very clearly. The photo of the original post does not. It is true that most girl leaves are ruffled, but again, the ruffling is not the defining trait of a girl leaf, it's the spot. Comments (3)I'm not familiar with caterpillars of the Southwest, but they look like some type of budworm. There are many different types in the east, including some that decorate themselves with the flower's petals! They all make a moth. Hopefully, someone else will know which type it is.
