Looks like a Portulaca, AKA "moss rose". A rather nice example of one too. Whenever I grew that type of plant, my soils were always too rich. Lots of growth, good healthy plants, and few if any flowers. Best in sandy, gravelly, crap soil.

Thanks you are exactly right. I just looked it up. I bought this on sale almost nothing at home depot and it has been my best plant this year. I need to remember this and get some for next year.

I believe they self-sow, so you may have some next year.

Yes. Any plants that do come from self-sown seed may or may not resemble the parents. But still a good way to get some nice plants, when it works.

Like I said, all my efforts with this group (Many years ago) were less than successful, due to attempting to use them in the same, highly-improved soil as I grow all our other stuff in. Way too rich and fertile. Leaves, leaves, and more leaves. I think I might have had one blossom!
