From that site: Due to the destructive effects Cuban treefrogs have on native species of amphibians and reptiles, many biologists recommend that Cuban treefrogs be euthanized/killed. That's harsh, but true. We recommend a humane method of euthanasia for amphibians. Just make SURE the frog you have is a Cuban treefrog before euthanizing it (see the test suggested below). A humane method for euthanizing amphibians: To euthanize a Cuban Treefrog, hold the frog firmly in your hand and apply a 1 inch bead of benzocaine ointment along the back of the frog. Benzocaine ointment is a topical anesthetic (a numbing agent) used to treat skin pain (e.g., from sunburn) and itching as well as toothaches and sore throats. There are a variety of name brand and generic versions that are available over-the-counter in a tube or spray. If you are able to, using a gloved finger spread the ointment out on the frog's back. Alternatively, you could use a benzocaine spray. Once the ointment or spray is applied, place the frog in a plastic grocery bag or a sealable sandwich bag for 15-20 minutes so that the benzocaine has a chance to render the frog unconscious (be sure to seal the bag or tie it closed). After the bezocaine has anesthetized the frog, place the bag in a freezer overnight to ensure that the frog is dead and then throw it out in your trash. If you are unable to apply benzocaine to the frog, you can simply put it in a plastic bag, seal or tie the bag shut, then place it in the freezer overnight--dispose of the bag and the frog in the trash the next day. Do not throw a bagged frog into the trash without euthanizing it first. Remember, Cuban Treefrogs have a noxious skin secretion so be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after you handle the frog, even if you wear gloves or use a plastic bag. Freezing is a humane way to kill amphibians because their bodies go into a state of torpor (metabolism slows way down) -- just as they do in cold weather outside. If the cold weather is short in duration, the frogs will come out of their torpor state. However, after an extended time in freezing temperatures, the frogs die. A good test to determine if a frog is a Cuban treefrog is to grasp the frog firmly, but gently, and try to move the skin around on the top of the frog's head with your fingertip. The skin on the head of a Cuban treefrog is fused to the top of the skull and won't move. Be sure to wash your hands after handling any frog or toad. They all secrete a slimy film to protect their skin, but the secretions of some species, like the Cuban treefrog, can irritate the skin and eyes of some people.

I had never seem them before (I'm new to the area), but I have lots of them in all different colors, and it seems I have the old style variety instead of the newer ones since I have lots of generous seed clusters. And judging from the dead bushes I removed this winter when I bought this place, I can expect mine to approach 5' tall by the end of summer! They sure are attracting the bees and butterflies, as is the spearmint which has bolted. Other than a couple of large bushes (which I can't ID) and the giant rosemary, uh, TREES, everything out front seems to have been put there just to be a butterfly garden with a few nods to the hummingbords. So I ditched my plans to make it an herb garden and I am filling in the empty spots with more cone flowers and sage and gerber daisies and other summer pretties. It's heavily mulched and I am certainly keeping an eye on putting in plants that can take the heat and be dry. At least once they get some good roots in. It looks like an overgrown meadow instead of foundation landscaping but hey, it's pretty. And not much else is right now.

Acros the street there is a swamp and stream and there are tons of green tree frogs over there. I used to live down the street and we always had both frogs covering the sliding glass doors. Even had a barking tree frog. Theres no shortage of anoles around my house, the brown ones hang out in the sunnier spots and the native green ones in the shadier areas. Also geckos at night and quite a few toads. Right now there are lots of tiny baby toads in the grass. My yard has a live and let live policy except for fire ants and sugar ants coming in the house. Florida has been over run and invaded by people so whats a few tree frogs going to hurt. They breathe and live just like us. I don't want a big hand grabbing me and putting me to sleep in the freezer just cause I wasn't born here. At least they aren't fouling the water and producing noxious gases and poisoning the air. CTF are now a wild part of the Florida ecology. just too many places for them to breed and live, just like humans. The only time I'll kill them is when Florida is returned to forests, empty beaches and Native American villages.

I've been waging war on these guys for years. My Squirrel and Green TF population has been steadily decreasing for a long time. Leopard frog too. But just recently I almost dispatched the wrong frog. Late one night a couple of treefrogs almost leapt into the net, I popped them into a bin to be dealt with the next morning. In the light of day I discovered a pair of green and very indignant Barking Treefrogs, I turned them loose by one of the ponds. In the dark the pair had looked like warty Ctf's. The Barking TF has a granular look and grows to 2+ inches, I had not paid attention to the spotty pattern on their backs or their color as they were under the blue mossie zapper light and I had been very tired. I've since been told the Barking TF is slower and easier to catch. DC? Your frog looks rather like a Pine Woods Treefrog, it's hard to tell if his back is smooth.
