Fourth Keurig machine is dead!
Comments (48)I have a Tassimo. This is my second....the first lasted a couple of years, this one is about 4 years old. I have a girlfriend that has had two stop working for her. Not sure how often she used it. I use mine for 4-5 cups a week....one cup a day for myself; on the weekend I use my auto drip for more than a cup a day. I have stayed with the Tassimo because of the milk discs for lattes and cappacinnos that I don't think Kuerig has. The Tassimo is not as popular and therefore the discs are not as highly available as the Kuerig; however, they can be found at Target, Walmart, and BB&B, and of course online. I don't think the machines are quite as expensive as the Keurig, but I could be wrong about that since I haven't bought one in a while. Overall, I do like the Tassimo. The only time it gives me an issue is if the bar code can't be read well, but I can usually remedy that with a quick swipe across the reader. Not really sure why that happens. It's not dirty, just sensitive it seems. I have had to 'reset' it with the power switch before too. It is convenient for a quick cup of coffee....the kids like their hot chocolate and other flavors as well, when you're sick and need hot tea as quickly as possible, it's great too....but like I said, it's only for a one-cupper around here, otherwise, we make a bigger pot....See MoreIs Nespresso better than Keurig?
Comments (17)The big question for you, holly-kay is: do you love espresso/cappuccino and lattes? That is, extracted Italian style vs drip-brewed American style a la Duncan (which I like a lot). If not, a $15 Melitta drip will produce excellent coffee if you start with freshly roasted, finely ground beans. I used one for years. Filters make it easy to clean. My issue was waste as I'm the only coffee drinker. I've never had a good cup of coffee from a K cup. But it's convenient. The Nespresso offers excellent coffee and single-serve convenience. If I could mail in the used pods I'd let them recycle mine. But I'm 1-1/2 hours from Sur La Table so not efficient. Nespresso isn't the best espresso I've tasted in my life but for an inexpensive machine, quality of the coffee, convenience of pods and range of choices and quality it is excellent and I am 100% satisfied. Reordering is so easy. Order came in 2 days; shipping was reasonable. I love my morning coffee more than ever and visitors rave about the cappuccino. Comments (10)@johns coastal patio... RO water is not "pure water" just filtered to a high degree. Distilled water would be more "pure" water. Your link clearly mentions super heating which a coffeemaker does not do and distilled water which RO water is not. @ Imp.capensis... Typical ROs have a 90%-95% rejection rate so if your TDS is 300 you should expect at least 30 and down to 15 if you have a really good RO that is routinely serviced so you're in the ballpark. The rejection rate lowers as the membrane ages. Sometimes you can get back some rejection with pre and post filter changes. If your water is ZERO hardness (correctly softened) that helps also cause calcium goes through the pre-filters and the membrane has to deal with it. Tell the Tassimo CSRs that when you buy water from the machine at Walmart there's a big RO inside and see what they say. I once called Keurig with a question and they wanted to know the last time i decalcified the Keurig. I said "never". They inquired "didn't the decalcify" show up in the display and I said NO. They said that my Keurig was broken cause it never asked to be decalcified. I asked "what if there's no calcium in the Keurig" and that was five years ago and all my machines continue to work perfectly....See MoreKeurig do you fill your own kcups?
Comments (22)I do not have one but my friends that do and try to make their own cups seldom make decent coffee. One of the things that most do not realize is that the coffee in them is micro-ground. That is finer than espresso grind and most filters will not catch all of it. When the cups first were on the market almost all had instant coffee powder in the cups. You seldom see that listed anymore but it could be hidden under "added flavor". I use a two cup Toastess brand coffee maker which sadly they seem to have discontinued. One of the other dislikes with the machines is that if you use a flavored coffee or other drink the flavor lingers. This way I can keep one side for one type the other for other uses....See MoreAdella Bedella
