Are you signing up with Jet?

Apparently Jet is trying to be competition for Amazon. I got an email from Jet offering a free 6-month membership. Paid Jet memberships will be less than Amazon. I read an article saying that many of Jet's prices are lower than Amazon, but I checked out a few items and found them to be close to the same. I think I'll stick with Amazon.

They immediately failed my one test. Amazon was the conduit for a really unusual product line I use, when I couldn't find its US storefront. It finally has one, but Amazon got me through until they did!

Someone brought up Yelp, and I have got to say that at least around here Yelp seems to be frequented by people who are dissatisfied with every service they've ever received, anywhere. My dentist, who regularly gets "Best of" in local magazines based upon votes from colleagues and patients has only a few reviews on Yelp, and they are terrible. But they started out with things like "I have been to many dentists, and I have never been to one with an oriental rug in the waiting room, so I knew I was going to be ripped off, so when he....etc." Really? I have been to my childhood dentist, a couple specialists and then one generalist as an adult. So "I have been to many..." anything, sets off warning bells in my head. Same with people who've hated the meals and service "Every Time" they have been to a certain restaurant. How many times do you need to decide you hate a restaurant? It takes me once. I know people (who I won't go out with socially) that manage to lodge a complaint and get something comped at every fine dining establishment in the city. These are the people who post on Yelp. I think most rating services are skewed one way or the other, so I pretty much only rely on actual referrals. It makes things difficult when trying to find someone, for sure.

I went into the PO today, had to send a cd of pictures and had no idea how much postage for it, so I asked about postage for the exchange. I was told that they can only raise the price of stamps once a year, and they had been denied raising it for this year already, so it won't go up before Christmas. US to Canada is 80 cents US postcards are 29 cents US to most of Europe is 98 cents, depending. I don't know what it will be for those out of the US sending to the US, and he couldn't tell me. Interesting...haven't heard of Jet. In addition to free shipping, do they offer eBook (i.e. Kindle), streaming video and music? Just wondering if the comparisons are truly head to head.

Never heard of Jet. I use Amazon a lot, and also use my Amazon Chase Visa card and the Amazon points I get for using it. Last week I bought an Omega masticating juicer for $227. After using a gift card from my daughter and the balance of my Amazon points, it cost me $9.

I looked up the book "Wonder." Hardback on Jet is 17.63. On Amazon it's 8.41. I'm not saying Jet isn't a good deal, but so far I'm not impressed. Really don't need another place to shop anyway. Competing with Amazon would be a very tall order!

Not sure about ebooks, streaming, etc.....Dee.

I am always suspicious of a place that makes you pay a significant amount to get a discount. Traditionally, club stores, and presumably online services, get a break from the wholesalers because they have limited and concentrated customer base. Even if that's still true, you'd have to spend about $500 a year just to make back your membership fee. Amazon gives free shipping on moderate sized orders with only a wait and no fee.

Strike two for me! I don't have prime, so I don't pay a membership fee. And won't. Hm. Bad that Jet and I are off on the wrong foot.
