Phosphonates vs Phosphates? Persil/Ariel, etc
Comments (5)Going to answer my own question here, my husband found this on gardenweb! I was a bit panicked as I did not want to use phosphates due to pollution & water concerns. This was the German laundry detergent ordered for a better price at http://eurofoodmart.com/ "Phosphonates like DTPA work as chelating agents. They basically bond with metals and other materials and sequester them to be flushed away. They are not as effective as phosphates, but they are still pretty darn good." http://www.thathomesite.com/forums/load/laundry/msg0203143616596.html?18...See MoreCalling Mexican Ariel fans! Comments (24)mamapinky, I looked up information about the phosphates and not only is P & G going to discontinue phosphates, but they hope to have 70% of all laundry done in cold water in a few years. Yuk. Not this gal. So far, I have not been able to find FOCA with phosphates, but they are selling HUGE non-phosphate bags for $8...I might just have to get one and doctor it up. I have to say, Ariel left my clothes so soft out of the washer! I think I have been accustom to the zeolite stiffness. I used a Bounce FS sheet in the dryer, and my clothes were soft with just a hint of fresh laundry smell. Perfection....See MoreFound: Ariel
Comments (28)Sandy - I usually eyeball my dosing (I know that's such a no-no), but somewhere in the 3-4 TBS range. I don't have soft water and can't do extremely low dosing and still get effective cleaning. At least half of my problem with Ariel is, for sure, the washer. Your Asko can give you an insane number of rinses, of which I'm quite jealous! When I dump the Samsung, I'll definitely give it another chance :) There is a way -- though a bit challenging -- for me to get 220 into my laundry closet. I'd have to run it from the breaker box at one end of the hallway all the way to the front where the laundry is. Sounds easy, but there are a number of doorways in between. I *think* I could put the line in conduit and run it behind the crown moulding at the ceiling, but will need to explore code. If this can be done at reasonable cost, it opens the opportunity to get either a Miele or an Asko, which I would love. I know the current Mieles are 110, but the matching dryer is only electric and I currently have a gas dryer hookup only. Comments (13)Larsi's Vanish contains oxy bleach, a warm-water bleach activator and four enzymes. Interestingly, I cannot find optical brightener on the ingredient list. The product livebetter linked is kinda similar but only has two enzymes and does have an optical brightener....See Moremustangs81
