Backsplash Help for Creamy white cabinets, soapstone...
Comments (19)Bestyears, My cabinets were painted in the factory and called antique white, but I can tell you that it is a near perfect match to BM's Marble White OC34. Thanks for the photo, this is all so helpful. I am in the process of calling marble yards and getting pictures sent to me, and saw some in person. I really love the largest tile in my photos as I feel that the deep charcoal vein and warm tan veins, with the clear white background is most complementary to my kitchen. Finding that is proving to me most difficult. Makes me think that subway or marble mosaic is a much easier choice. But then again I have waited this long to find the right thing... I am so grateful for all the ideas and help you all have given me. I was on the building forum a ton about 5 years ago when we built our house and I could not have done it without all the wonderful support, ideas and knowledge! Comments (7)Have your soapstone installed first and then audition backsplashes with it. I have GM Original that is quite busy; GM Original comes from quarries in Santa Rita, so I suspect it is very similar and depends on what the vendor decides to call it. Here is my GM Original Here is the backsplash it took me 3 months to find (my contractor gave up on me and took on other jobs. He FINALLY came back this week and finished - LOL.) Frankly, I wouldn't worry about it - no matter how busy the soapstone is, it really just has an overall look - it isn't the same kind of busy you get in some granites, which can really be overpowering. There is nothing overpowering about soapstone, no matter which one you choose - IMO. Even the backsplash, which looks busy at first, all becomes one thing in the macro. But I would still wait till the granite is in. You might change your mind about the tile - who knows? I always think that if people are saying "what do you think?" they have their own doubts. When it's right, you'll know it immediately....See MoreLayout done, Now I need design/finishing help!!!
Comments (21)leela I am awaiting a sample to pour oil on & scour with grease cutter. this will help me decide lol. bdrl I will look for your post. I know, but I plan on degreasing to clean daily. At least I hope to.... from what I understand, the oil doesn't get absorbed into the stone and can be degreased. it will patina around the heavy oil areas like the cooktop, but should be able to blend well if I use a degreasing agent. I will test my sample when I get it. I have other soapstone that I used dish soap to clean it, and although not as light as unoiled, the oil spot fades pretty much with dish soap cleaning. mamagoose, love that mock up! thanks! All the way to the ceiling baby! Hood will actually be touching the ceiling, so I have to go all the way....See Moremama goose_gw zn6OH
