I have an off-white cellular shade in my main bathroom (installed in the summer of 2007). Nothing fancy (bought it at a big box store similar to HD). Absolutely no problem so far. We use the fan though everytime we take a shower or a bath. A fan on a timer (thanks to GW) is the best.

Wow; lots to think about! There isn't a lot of room for doing an inside mount with shutters the way it is BUT we just had these windows put in by our contractor with the addition. Since he was supposed to match our other windows, we could always have him fix it (not sure how but that is what the guy said that came out to give us an estimate on various window treatments should we want shutters). I love drapes but am afraid with the clearance so close to the door on the left and to the vanity on the right, it might not be the best choice in this situation (otherwise, I think I'd be brushing up against it when I wash my face). Wonder if this offers much privacy or if I should add a (white) black out fabric behind it. I think we might be able to get away with a regular cafe curtain in the space if we didn't mind those walking by to see our heads/shoulders but the 3/4 might be best and maybe even look better - thoughts? I don't sew so I'll have to do some searching around for these curtains. Any leads and thoughts on doing something like this? If so, would you have them add the wood between the windows and do two separate cafe curtain rods or keep it off and do one bar across the entire window? Any tips on where to get chrome cafe curtains? Rejuvenation has some nice ones but they are not offered in chrome?

Wow, those privacy films available at Home Depot are gorgeous! When we bought the house there was awful, ratty, badly applied frosted film in there (and also in front windows in the living room - I think a vampire lived there). I looked to replace it in the bathroom but the selections were UGLY. One issue is that not being able to see the sky and trees makes the space feel even more cramped than it actually is. Another is that the toilet is right next to the window, so there's less of the fuzzy-distortion effect at night when people are essentially back lit an a few inches from the shade. The outside solutions are intriguing but I think the space is too narrow - anything tall enough and opaque enough to provide privacy is going to make the room dark. Now, if I could get the neighbors to give up the reclaimed driveway space and plant some things there like the previous owner had... I'm definitely going to get some privacy film for my son's bedroom, which is also the guest bedroom. It's next to the bath so same issues with privacy. The lower part of the double-hung is level with the bed and just covering the panes in that section will make it much more comfortable to raise the shade. As it is it feels very exposed even with the sheer curtain. I'm still thinking a top-down/ bottom-up shade would work best in the bathroom. Is it possible to put them in a humid location? And can they be cut to length, or do you have to go custom for such a short window?

Beautiful bathroom! I love Heidi’s style, too, as well as a certain European aesthetic. I would absolutely do cafe curtains. Besides fitting your style well, they’ll allow the pretty windows on top to show. (Unless you need total privacy, of course.) You can hang cafes higher than the middle: I think vintage style shutters would be charming, too. Curtains can be beautiful in bathrooms, and if you used a french return rod, they’d clear your lights. But I think for your set-up, cafes or shutters would be my choice. Roman shades and other types of shades might be a pain to mess with over the tub, I can’t tell from the picture.. You don’t want to take away from the charm using something utilitarian like solars, et al.
