Dell printer v515w - Problem

Can't print and think the reason might be that there is a print job on the spool which I can't delete. Hope you can help - have tried turning the printer and computer on and off with no success. Don't know a lot about computers and hope your answer will be a simple one. Thanks.

How is the printer connected USB or wifi ?

Will it print a test page;

1 Open the Dell Printer Home by clicking or Start, All Programs, Dell Printers, then click Dell Printer Home.

2 In Dell Printer Home, make sure the correct printer model appears in the pulldown window at the top.

3 Click the Maintenance Tab and click Print Test Page.

Thank you for your quick response. Did as you said - printer model indicates V310-V510 - our printer is v515w. Next step? Thanks again.

wizard, I just wanted to say I have a 6 year old Dell, and though I can no longer extend the warranty (could only get it for 5 years), the last 2 years I had what was called Gold Support. I'm not sure if I paid extra for that over wwhat it would have normally cost for years 4 and 5, but with the Gold Support, my repair call was to be answered in 5 minutes....and it always was. Additionally, other than the initial repair call to tech support which was overseas (India I think) all the later calls were to US tech folks. LMK if you ever want me to check for a US repair # for you. My one and only call to India was a disaster and drove me nuts. Additionally, since having the Gold Warranty for years 4 and 5, I am entitled to tech support for the life of the computer.

I would try recycling (starting and stopping) the print spooler and RPC services if I were you. Open Control Panel and then open Administrative Tools and then Services. The services are in alpha order so find Print Spooler, right click on it and select Stop,,,wait until it's stopped, then right click and select Start. Repeat the step with Remote Procedure Call (RPC). Try again to install the printer, by unplugging the USB from the computer side, restarting Windows and then plugging it back in. If the steps to clear the print spooler don't work, there are some more detailed instructions for doing this through the run line that I can provide if needed.

Thank you so much for the input, but I finally gave up fighting this thing every time there's a power interruption and bought a USB cable...hooked it up...and I'm good to go. No more stressing out...and running to the other end of the house just to print something! The other computer is really slow and takes forever and a year to fire up to use it's wired printer. Thanks anyway. I really do appreciate so many suggestions! ~Sandy~

From what I saw that printer has a poor history. And the error appears to indicate a color cartridge problem. some folks have replaced the color cartridge and resolved the error, for others it has not resolved the error, so I could not recommend buying a cartridge and saying that would take care of it based on my search results, I can say this when purchasing a printer I stay with companies in the printer business like, HP, Cannon, brother, because of the amount of printing I do per day I had to get away from cartridge type because of the expense, and have moved to a Brother Printer - Laser jet\drum type.

There should be an arrow on the printer pulldown window where it shows the model. You would want to click on v515w in the drop down window. Then try an print.

For some reason on the pull down it's printer V310-V510 series- while the number on our printer is V515w. I'm able to print a test page. Was able to clear the spool. It seems when I hit print the screen shows portrait but then immediately turns to landscape. Still can't print. Thanks.

How is that printer connected to the computer ? WIFI or USB cable

If it prints a test page when signaled from the PC then the connection may not be the problem. Sounds more like a settings issue.

Does it fail to print from all programs, or just one?

Go into File, Print, Properties, and report back what the settings say. A legible screen capture would work too.

I'm in a mess - was trying different things all morning - and whatever I did it's now telling me no compatible printers available - also connectivity problem. I can see if you want to give up on the problem. Thanks. PS-I have very little computer knowledge and should have left well enough alone.
