Hello! Sounds like she might be a little too wet - and they hate being inside as well! I bought a very poor thing recently which had been left outside all winter etc - but with some TLC I am sure it will be ok. Don't worry if all the foliage drops - it's a reaction to the move, change of scenery etc - citrus can be really prissy about that sort of thing! Pot into a terracotta pot if you can - they "breathe" so if you do over water, drying out is easier and quicker, and less damaging. use a citrus compost from the garden centre - they are neutral pH and really are worth the extra £. Then lay off feeding for 3/4 weeks to let her settle down. If warm enough during the day - ie above 5C you can stand her outside in a sheltered place, but I would bring in at night if it's going to be cold. then start to feed again - either with citrus feed, or chempack No2, high nitrogen. this will boost leaf production and green her up for you. do you have a greenhouse - she would be better off out there with some frost protection to be honest. I was going to post a sympathy response also with my own pics, but it's too depressing. I got hit BAD this Fall, despite my luck with very little damage in prior years. Perhaps it's moving northward in CA even stronger now since the introduction (I live in central CA San Joaquin Valley). Nearly ALL my young growth on more than half my container trees was damaged like the above picture or worse! I would estimate only about 10% of the young shoots/foliage were spared, and every warm day during the past couple weeks I see a few more bite the dust. Citrus in this area is (was) generally pest and disease free. hmmpphh..

Hi Patricia..how warm/hot is the porch? Was your tree outside in summer? If so, how long has it been since bringing indoor? You said, "the leaves look very healthy even after they have fallen off." So you're saying foliage haven't any yellow or brown? Just green leaves that drop??? Is the air dry? Do you use a humidifer? Dry air causes all sorts of problems. (for plants, pets and people. They sell hygrometers (meters that read and display humidity) from 7.00 and up. They come in handy. Placing plants inside deeper/wider saucers filled w/stones or pebbles, then adding a little water, called a pebble tray, helps the air somewhat. Daily misting keeps foliage clean and moistens air a bit, especially if plants are grouped together. Since leaves aren't discoloring, it's difficult diagnosing a problem. Even if insects were the reason your citrus is losing leaves, there's usually some indication of their presence. I'd check leaves, stems and soil to be on the safe side. Don't fertilize during winter months. Set your tree in the most sun possible. Water well, but let soil dry between waterings. If possible take your citrus to the sink or shower and hose..I'd do this once a wk. Though some people are skeptical about this product, I'd buy a bottle of Superthrive Hormone and Vitamins. I would CUT IT BACK so that the only few healthy roots you do have don't try to support the growth on top and then collapses..The reason many get die back and twig death is because a weak root system which CAN NOT support the top growth! If you cut it back, the plant will use what ever energy is left of its healthy roots and focus on producing more, while they take a rest from pushing out more energy to support the top.. You can't support or make big muscles with little protein , water or nutrients..You can not support a leaf canopy without nutrients and moisture either which your roots are not capable of providing, assuming there is a problem with the roots. Many people have it all backwards...It's healthy roots that need to be there to support a plant needs..The bigger the health root ball, the more leaves it will support. Why do you think I tree goes into dormancy when daylight gets shorter and temps grow colder? How can any tree survive without it's leaves or come back after being stripped off from a storm? There are NO leaves and yet the roots bring them back. Think about it. When a disease attacks the roots, drought, a hard transplant , root pruning, ,disturbance, overwatering and other factors, what happens to the top of any tree? Like Dave said, it has very little leaves and it will not take up moisture as it is suppose too so yea I would definitely watch my soil and watering habits...If you want that tree to make it, it's important to give it a heck of a lot of sunlight and warmth, or artificial light like many are doing here..If you mix is still staying wet far too long, then I would find a way to make that mix dry out much faster by wicking it out or ' down pot' as Pip says into a better mix if it seems the roots are much smaller than you thought.
