Pics pls! Struggling with look of hood larger than range...
Comments (13)Symetry between upper and lower cabinets screams of a focus on form verses function. Both should be considered (have end runs end at the same spot, etc) but uppers and lowers all lining up in size....that's actually not the best way to plan a kitchen. Your cabinets should have some areas that line up (ie the tops, staggers on both sides if you're doing that, etc) but doors on the bottom and top...no way, that's not remotely necessary. This is the only full stacked cabinets I have...notice the bottoms are not remotely the same as the top...and yet it flows fine. The top lazy susan is angled, the bottom on a corner. The bottom cabinets are large (36" deep with pullouts) and a small corner and stack of drawers, but they don't match the microwave and cabinet, and on the other side I have 3 doors that add up to around 42" over my 36" lowers. Do you really think that does not flow???? Symetry is ok, but don't go nuts with it :)...See Moreneed a larger, more powerful range hood
Comments (2)I have a 30" Imperial under cabinet range hood that's around 1000 cfm with dual blowers. They do may one 24" deep in that width. It took about two years for me to find a range hood that met my specifications as I was looking for long-term reliability. Imperial is manufactured in California, has a 7 year warranty on their better quality hoods, is made of marine grade stainless steel so will not corrode or rust, led lighting, larger 8" ducts, baffles, remote control switches (optional), and continuously variable light and blower controls (no discreet power levels). Packaging and shipping were excellent. Furthermore, their office personnel were always available to answer my many questions, including details regarding installation. When a electrical wiring question came up during installation (due to my not wanting the blower to come on automatically at a certain temperature), Imperial put their engineer on the phone to tell the installer which wiring to disconnect. Ops, just saw your rear duct and the size specification. You would need to call Imperial about your duct size as they may recommend a larger duct for the power you are seeking. You should post on GW Appliances forum also regarding that duct sizing issue for the power you want. I can't recall about the rear vent, but Imperial seems to do just about every modification possible, so check the details through their online vendors or call the company....See Moredownsizing range; keep larger hood?
Comments (40)Resurrecting this thread. New idea as we are now thinking of redoing the cabinets and counters in our kitchen anyway, so may reconfigure a bit: get a 36” range and new 36” hood (Bluestar for both), and have a 12”-15” lower cabinet to the right of the oven, and a 9-12” upper cabinet next to the hood. This allows for more space in our breakfast nook, which is currently way too tight with the cabinets that are there. And the 48” range looks large for the space (in my opinion) and I definitely don’t need such a big range. My concern is that the nook would be about 73” wide and about 77” long. We’d only need a four person table, I was thinking about 36” wide by 60” or so long, and benches on either long side. Does this work or is it too tight? I know it wouldn’t have the recommended 36” from table edge to cabinet, but with benches I think doable? Would be a vast upgrade from the setup we have now anyway. I feel like the extra space for the nook is worth the downsizing of the range and losing a little counter and cabinet space, but would love other thoughts. Thanks!...See MoreCan i put a smaller range hood insert into a larger range hood?
Comments (7)Hi there! While it isn't the most common, there have been times we have made a very long/large range hood and only need a certain size insert (for example 10' wide hood, only needing a 48" liner), so most often what we would do is install a stainless steel panel to allow everything to look smooth and coherent with the liner. Some people opt to add lighting to the "dead" panel space, and I would definitely recommend making sure you get the proper CFM for your space, but yes you can have an insert smaller than the range hood. Hope this helps!...See MoreJakvis
