If you order plants or seeds...what online sources do you use?
Comments (16)Cannadoit - Dottie wasn't accusing you of anything. The GardenWeb rules forbid mentioning any business by name, for any reason, under any circumstances. But things have relaxed a bit nowadays and no one seems to be monitoring things. Just don't be surprised if this thread gets pulled. They consider mentioning a company name as a form of advertising, regardless of the intent. As for seeds or plants - I used to shop everywhere online and couldn't wait to see that box waiting for me on the porch when I got home from work. But now that I've lived here for 9 years I know my way around better and can find just about anything I want locally. Even the hard to find obscure organic/heirloom vegetable seeds from Baker Creek are now available off the rack at my favorite downtown Raleigh Garden Center (Logan's). For mainstream summer annuals I shop at all the garden centers on the south side since that's where I live, with Bbs down in Sanford and Campbell Road on Tryon being favorites. For truly unique odd ball stuff I hit Plant Delights which is conveniently nearby. I have one favorite place I still shop at back in my home state of Oklahoma (Bustani Plant Farm) but I usually pick stuff up when I am home visiting relatives. I shop differently now than I did in the past. My garden is pretty full so now I seek out the plant online and look for sources. When I see something that I think will work for me (often from a thread here on Garden Web) I google the heck out of it and track down a source. I have splurged and bought seeds from all over the world that way. But I no longer have favorite seed or plant catalogs....See MoreBathroom Storage; what do you have, how do you use it
Comments (11)I think organization is at least as important as sheer storage space. Spread all your bathroom junk out on the floor or bed and pretend you're at a garage sale and that you have to 'buy' anything you want to keep (and not at a too-good-to-pass-ip price). If you don't care enough about it to buy it back now, then throw it away! TOSS those 10-year old lotions and potions! Failed make-up experiments? Throw 'em away! Perfumes and after shaves that aren't your style? Toss 'em! Curlers, straighteners and personal appliances that are no longer being used -- Goodwill 'em. The sheer volume of 'bathroom garbage' may dismay you; but you may also be pleasantly surprised by the 'good stuff' you rediscover simply by tossing the carp. Then sort and group the rest into baskets and bins that are just large enough for what's in them. Storage containers that can be stacked to fully utilize the vertical space will make the most of shelves, and see-through containers and big labels are wonderful! Then put the seldom-used stuff on the hard-to-reach shelves and the used-everyday stuff in the easiest-to-access areas. How much storage space do I have? One small medicine cabinet and an 18" wide by full-height closet. Between those two spaces, I have everything I use plus soap, shampoo, toothcare and deoderant for the entire family....See Moreremove or leave soffit, use for storage? what do you think?
Comments (9)I just added a soffit/cabinet above my open alcove. It's only 13" so doesn't feel claustrophic to me. It has some molding on it and is intended to look like part of the wall, not a cabinet. Opens on a piano hinge. I use it for seldom accessed and sometimes bulky items like the humidifier, vaporizer, things I'm not ready to toss and to stash other things I buy in bulk. In my small home, it's very welcome additional storage. It also balances the other side of my bath vanity area (two towers, sink between). I never liked that vacuous builder-bland opening. Now it looks finished to me and really does feel like a bath alcove, which I've always loved the look of. I'm not concerned about moisture in the cabinet, which is sealed tightly. I still have concern that the lower wallboard on the ceiling might get mold from moisture from the shower but was told by a couple people onsite that it wouldn't be a problem. Plan B ceiling treatment if that occurs. Yours is lower than mine and looks painted. Do you use the shower regularly and have you had any problem with moisture or mold on the ceiling?...See MoreOnline Photo Storage: I Am So Frustrated With Photobucket!
Comments (9)I became disenchanted with photobucket quite sometime ago and have all but stopped using it. I think the problem is that the days of "freebies" are over and sites offering those services now want to be fee based. As a result, they're not investing any of their time or resources into maintenace of the free sites. Now I either store my photos on my Apple cloud for a small monthly fee or I download them onto an external hardrive. And although it's fee based, Dropbox has been a great way to store and share family photos. My sister has been building a complete memorial file of our parents and their legacy that also includes family photos from generations ago. The annual fee is reasonable when you think about how much joy it brings to everyone. We can all save from the collection of photos or add to it. It's very special for everyone and worth every penny....See Moremissymoo12
