Kitchen sinks--utility and esthetics

After looking at kitchen sinks, in particular the Kohler stages sink, it seems to me what they have done is put the drainboards into the sink. So the activities that would normally occur on top of the drainboard(s) next to the sink are now carried on in the sink. This makes clean up slightly easier because you are slushing the yuk directly into the sink below as opposed to sliding it across the drainboard into the sink, but you are losing a tremendous amount of undercounter space for this privilege and you have a sink that you would seldom if ever fill... Are drainboards really that ugly???? Why is the larger opening of the stages any prettier?

(sinks with drainboards are available but are relatively uncommon at the moment, this could only be in response to market lack of demand.)
