Alternatives to Frigidaire / Electrolux frig/freezer kit?

Hello,

Okay, first off...4k-ish is pushing the limit on my new frig budget, but if I had a good reason, I could push it a little more.

I am currently looking at a stand-alone frig and stand-alone freezer with a trim kit by Frigidaire for the new kitchen.

I know Electrolux makes one as well.

I was at Lowes last night and they sorta implied that "you get what you pay for if you buy Frigidaire".

Anyone have any experiences with these?

Know of an alternative that will be less than the cost of my wife booting me into an apartment if I spend too much?;)

We had some frigidaire appliances that we bought about 10 years ago. We were extremely happy with them. Now we are temporarily housed in a condo (7 months now while we redo the house) and all the appliances are frigidaire professional series and probably less than 5 years old. I hate all of them. Ice maker has broken in freezer, dishwasher has broken detergent dispenser and doesn't clean dishes very well to boot. Oven takes a good 40 minutes to warm up to 350. The ceramic top is very difficult to clean compared to ours. The controls for the stove are counterintuitive. I could go on. Not sure what happened, but I'm looking for different brands now that we are redoing our kitchen.

I think frigidaire and electrolux are the same company, no?

Daisy- sounds awful!

Does the condo have an elevator? If so, it is probably using 208 instead of 240/50 for the oven. My DM used to complain about her oven until I discovered this issue.

I have model E32AR75JPSO Ummmmm, I don't think that I really regret anything. I love the fridge as a whole and love the ability to store the things we use most often, very easily. It would be nice if the produce drawer was easier to remove and wash, but it's not like it's impossible. We go through produce so quickly ( I have to restock a couple of times a week) now that we've changed our eating habits. Well, OK. Maybe 2 full levels of produce drawers, but I've never seen a fridge that offers that. For cleaning, a simple wipe out with vinegar and water spray is enough before it's filled to the brim again. I also haven't looked into getting anything else. My produce keeps for a very long time. We have a ton of space and can see/reach everything easily. The temp is consistent. The only other thing I'd change is how DH opens the door. For some reason, he thinks he's in a tug-o-war match and the fridge ends up moving around as a result. I don't have the same issue, so he's just heavy-handed. I need to figure out how to keep it from moving when others yank on it. But, you don't have to yank unless you want to open it immediately after it closes. Let it stabilize and it's super easy.

We were able to find the Frigidaire All freezer/frig combo in stock and on display at a appliance store about 70 miles from us - we drove up, took a look at them, and bought them. They are in storage right now, so I have no idea how they will work once installed, but we were impressed with them enough to buy them. Comparing the specs of the Elextrolux, and seeing what looked like more reported problems with them, we were happy to go with the "lower end" Frigidaire. Time will tell if we were right! The other plus is the Enegry Star rating, and the ice maker (we didn't want a water dispenser)...The ice maker is the simple type in the top corner and takes up little space. The best is the price for how much space you gain.

We have 2 Elux all-fridges and 1 all-freezer. We purchased them in 2007, but moved in in 2008 and started using them. So, it's 6 1/2 yrs later, and we've had no service calls. 1 of the fridge's interior light has a will of its own, so doesn't always come on, and the readout occasionally tries to give me an error code. From what I could find online, that code is related to the evaporator fan motor... But it keeps working and the code goes away. It's done that for a few years now. I haven't had it checked. Meant to at first, but the fridge keeps working fine, so at this point, I'm figuring it's a false alarm. The other fridge and the freezer have had absolutely no problems. I know this is just one family's experience and opinion, and you're looking for more stats for a greater number of units, but I think they're a good bet. The only reason I might not buy them again is the way the drawers are attached to the shelves above so they're a pain to take out and get clean. Maybe they've changed that by now.

We had our Frigidaire pair for over 5 years. Per GW advice I bought the 4 year warranty which turned out to be a good buy as the freezer has needed repairs once. No issues with the fridge. We are a family of 4 and love love our twin pair. I have both in my kitchen and love the convenience of not having to think about what I can fit in the fridge. I buy a lot of fresh vegies and it keeps them along with plenty of room for drinks and lunches. I am currently doing a remodel where I designed one wall to contain the twin pair. I have the Thermador gas range, an Electrolux dishwasher, a Miele steam combi oven and a Miele convection oven. No they don't all match but I am one to cook in my kitchen and figure that the next owner will replace them all anyways.

That is very interesting a2gemini. We do have an elevator. I know nothing about electrical stuff, but we've had other electrical issues that I now wonder if they are related.

I read the Yale Appliance Blog and they have good things to say about Frigidaire. Their posts seem objective especially considering they service what they sell. They see the problems after the sale. Yale sells and services appliances from entry level to high end and don't seem to be pushing one brand over another. (I have no affiliation with Yale Appliances, just enjoy reading the blog. And wish I could buy from them!)

Those all fridge all freezer units from frigedaire are the same as the electrolux are the same as the kenmore versions except for the cosmetics.

So, you'd kinda be buying the same thing whichever on you choose. One just has a fancier dress (trim kit) than the other.

The debate is a local place like Lowes vs them. I think no tax plus 100-200 less than a local place, free shipping. I always just worry about not buying the things local.. heh
