advantages of starting seeds indoors during ideal weather?

its pretty warm outside right now...right now temperature ranges from 70-80 degrees F.

from what i understand, seeds that are started indoors in little
seedlings trays are done so to control conditions but MOSTLY to protect
delicate seedlings from the cold weather.

its a lot more work to germinate seeds indoors and then to transplant
them instead of direct sow into the outside ground, plus there is also
the transplant shock...so im wondering whether or not i should even
bother doing the indoor start stage.

what other advantages are there for me to start seeds indoors and do you personally do or recommend it?

also if sown directly...it it just sown into the already existing
soil with the hope that the seeds germinating will be able to break
through the more tougher soil? I know when one starts seeds indoors a
softer seed starting mix is used instead of normal outdoor soil.

thanks!
