Has anyone bought from Joycreek Nursery?

I don't want to bash them, I think they are a good company, but I am loosing my patience. I ordered 2 hydrangeas from them in March, not knowing at the time it was a pre-order. (The hydrangeas weren't ready to ship) I didn't find this out until May. When I contacted them they said they were pushed back 2 weeks. . . so on and so on. . . so far the last I heard was they would ship them the end of June. . . nothing yet. . .

Has anyone had problems with them? At this point I'm a little leary as to what the plants will look like when/if they do arrive. The last e-mail said the tops were fine but the roots were slow so they cut them back to stimulate the roots. . . They are located in Missouri. I live in Montana and my other 3 are blooming like crazy. They haven't charged my credit card so I'm not out anything if I never receive them. I was really looking forward to 2 more Annabelle Hydrangeas though. . .

It is the only mail order nursery I have ever ordered from :-) They specialize in clematis - have a huge selection - and I am a clematis collector. The plants received have always been extremely healthy, of a generous size and very well-packed/shipped. Shipping was always quite prompt but I only live a day's drive away so that might be why. My only complaint is that unless I order very early in the season, what I want may very well be sold out!

They get a very good rating from Garden Watchdog and if you read the reviews, those who have had complaints seem to have had the issues resolved satisfactorily in most cases.

A case could be made for them not shipping at this time of year simply to protect the plants. The weather has been extremely hot through this area for the last month and I would NOT want my plants sent in the mail/UPS now..........but they should let you know if that is the case and when you could reasonably expect them. A case could also be made for NOT planting anything right now as well - you may be better off in the long run with this unintended delay.

I am not sure if you have the wrong name or the wrong location, but Joy Creek is in Scappoose, OR, not Missouri. I ordered from them this year for the first time and the order arrived on time and the plants look great.

You can always check out the ratings on Garden Watchdog.

thanks NHbabs, now that you mentioned them being located in OR I recall that on their website. But in an e mail I got she said they were in MO. Maybe they are getting the hydrangeas from there. ???????

Oops! Never mind. I looked them up on the Garden Watchdog. The ratings were dismal. I noticed that Chamblees had the highest ratings, and their roses were about the same price! That tells me a lot.

I don't think they do any shipping. Lucky me, it's not too far. I love that place. If anyone goes there, you'll see some really good native plants...they don't grow as many kinds of plants as they did back when Betty (who passed on to wildflower heaven) was in charge. But if you don't see something you want, just ask, it can't hurt. There's some plants they keep in their greenhouse also. Medina Garden Nursery (I think that's what it's called) is in nearby Medina, Texas and is worth a visit also. Native plants all over and what a beautiful garden!

Update: I spoke to someone in customer service yesterday and they are working on getting my order out. I received one wt this a.m. out of the 6 ordered. I asked for a discount because they did not live up to the shipping guarantee as promised and am awaiting word on that because she needs to speak to a higher up. In the meantime, they called this a.m. to let me know that the thermal liner I ordered on 1 shade is not available and that I'd have to change my option on that one. It is 3 weeks after my order, so I am disappointed that they are just noticing that now. I was under the impression from the above posting and email I received that my order was being taken care of, only to find out another detail had slipped through the cracks. I am trying to be patient but I have had too many snafus in too short a time period. The fact that my kitchen was only half delivered last week and then I got stood up yesterday on the redelivery, and since I was shorted on my kitchen/den floor, which install has now been delayed until Fri, it is hard not to be very testy. I have been dealing with customer services, missing time at work and neglecting other things that need doing. We are so close, yet so far from done. I will keep you posted how this gets resolved.

OK- old post but I have ordered from them for years. If you want inexpensive and don't mind the wait for small plants to mature, then they are a god deal.

Hi Debi,

I've seen Annabelles available locally here in Bozeman - might it make more sense to buy ones from around here somewhere? Can you get them at your nurseries?

It's been a long time since I ordered from them, but when I did the plants arrived quickly and in beautiful condition.

I would look around to see if you can find Annabelle locally, and if you can, think about canceling the order. I found Annabelle here, and I am quite rural. Also, IME if you are willing to wait a year or two once you have one plant, Annabelle will create suckers and you can have as many as you want. I give away hunks since it's so prolific.

Hopefully we are all talking about the same nursery? I ordered from the Scappoose Joy Creek a few years ago. I was thrilled with the quality of their plants. Wonderfully packaged and bigger than expected.

I agree with GG about them probably holding off on sending because of the heat. One of our wholesale plant reps from that general area of OR said it was almost as painfully hot there as it was here (Spokane, got well over 100 degrees last week!).
