Hello garden forum, just testing. I use to be 'funnelweb' now I'm 'lillyli', I dunno why, it's the only name I could get accepted and I like lilies! I've also had to learn all about a new computer running Windows8.1, talk about having patience! I wonder if any of my old friends are still around, Chas, tropibreesent, alisonoz, tedhort, etc. (excuse spelling) If so, say hello, it's been a long time and this site has proven (at least to me) bloody confusing, why the hell did they have to change it? Progress I guess.

Hello Bill, it's Alison. I agree 100% Not nearly so much fun as the "old" days. And posts get dredged up from more than 10 years ago, fair go! I think we should ask the supervisors to change "Gardening in Oz" to Gardening in Australia" as I'm sure newcomers from here would skip over it thinking it was "Ozarks Mountains". But I can't get the hang of the layout. How are you anyway, ignore my whingeing.

Hi Alison, I'm ok. Yes, 'Gardening in Australia' would be much better, pity we can't start up our own page but the complications I can imagine, even if we could overcome them, would pale into insignificance by the ones we cant foresee. Thanks for responding, I'm still exploring the site, I think I saw tropibresant (I can never remember how he spells his name) somewhere but seems Chas has gone. Be nice to keep in touch Alison, so if you wander by now and again so will I. By the way, are you on Facebook? We could maybe click each other up as a 'friend'!

Mary, I had to return my Penguin copy of 'A' to the library so cannot check the pages you mention, nor can I answer Carolyn's question about the times A was in hospital having suffered breakdowns; maybe you can help her out. I would agree with you that the sense of identity and its loss, are probably the strongest themes throughout the book. If one knew nothing about the author if would be easy to suppose he was writing about himself; that he was 'A', but Sebold was born at the end of the conflict at a time when what had happened in Germany was brushed, by them, under the carpet. Despite my parents having several German friends little mention was made of what happened to them (or by them) from '39 - 45'. It was not considered polite to bring the subject up. One friend told them that while living in the Ruhr an area that suffered heavy allied bombing towards the end, her father was in an air-raid shelter and mentioned to another man "Surely we cannot go on much longer." He was overheard by an informer and, within hours, was dragged in front of the SS and locked in prison for several weeks for unpatriotic remarks. Another German acquaintance lost a husband at the Russian Front and moved to her parent's home in the country. The area had been heavily mined by their own troops and she saw her father and only son blown up when their horse and cart ran over one of the mines. She became very bitter and was given the job of caring for us three children while my parents went abroad for a couple of months. It was not a happy experience for us; not that she beat us or was cruel . . . just something in her attitude . . . and we were too young to understand or have any sympathy.

Howard, I actually have two Phal Orchids. The one you see a glimpse of was just purchased for me yesterday. Seems I have a green thumb with them as well as cacti! Sadly, I won't be able to come to the show this weekend. My weekends are either spent with my children or doing emergency room rotations for medic school. This weekend I will be at St John in Detroit! Should be good fun! LOL Rina! Good to see you again! I like to get my plants outside ASAP! It's much better for them plus they do a good bit of growing in the colder months! My big jade is already sprouting new leaves. I'm looking forward to more growth and I need to repot some of the little guys around the bottom! They're starting to crowd each other! ~Erin~

The guy with the white strip is Striptease. You have some beautiful mature hostas there. By the time mine in pots get even close to that, I have to divide them and re-pot because I cannot handle a pot larger than 3 gal. Nuts. (trade-offs for living on a small suburban lot in CA). Thank you so much for those beautiful mature hosta pics. Most of what we see here on the forum is new plants less than 5 years old. Congrats on the Masters. Methinks you get a Masters Degree for growing such beautiful hostas! -Babka

Wondered where you'd got to Bill. Hope all is well. I had problems when the change came in and had to rejoin with another name. But I kept harassing Houzz and eventually they gave me my old name back and moved all my posts under both names together.

I'm still around and keep plodding away with my posts, whether anyone replies or not. Sort of like keeping a light in the window so anyone passing by will know someone's home, LOL.

Yeah all is well Tropi. Got so frustrated when they changed this site without warning and failed to show where it was amongst all their other 'Houzz' stuff I gave up. Recently I've updated my computer to an Windows 8.1 and in trying to get a handle on it thought I'd take another look. Also thought I'd have a change from the old Funnelweb name, besides, I had your trouble in trying to convince them I was the original owner of it so again I gave up and spent a hell of a lot of time trying to find a new one that they'd except until I just rambled this one off the top of my head and bingo! So it'll do for the time being. What about Chas, Trop. ever hear from him? Looking down the list I remembered he was Tupito or something like that.

Have a look on your Goanna thread. From memory he asked about you and I mentioned you had been talking about going on Facebook. Can't recall seeing a post from him since.

Shortly after I joined the old site (Garden Express, I think it was) it all went belly up with changes the like of which I couldn't fathom. Anyway, I received an email today about a thread I was part of early this year so thought I'd give it another lash. Lo & behold, I think I've got the hang of it so I'll persist at least for a while. Wish me luck!
