What to do on the 4th of July? Go see nurseries of course!

Taking advantage of the yearly family reunion in western North Carolina - I looked at the Dixie Regional Hosta Society nursery list to see if there were any hosta retailers near where we were staying. We ended up going to Rux Gardens in Waynesville, NC (and one other non-hosta specialty nursery). The owner said that he was more interested in carrying "older but good hostas that no one seemed to sell anymore."

I ended up buying a Delta Dawn Hosta and two Godzilla Japanese painted ferns.

Here are a few iPhone photos:

Bright Lights was tempting, but it looked a bit like June (which I have) or Paul's Glory (which is on my purchase list). I was also looking to buy something a bit larger than this specimen. The owner described Bright Lights as having more corrugation than June.

I was specifically looking at yellows, so I neglected to take photos of really anything else.

Delta Dawn not yet quite sporting it's super wide white margins.

An example of the largest size hosta for sale - 3 gal. I think.

He also had a garden path, but it was a bit overgrown.

Anyway, just thought you'd like a little preview if you were ever near Asheville.
